Job Description

Accepting applications for a remote part-time (20 hours/week) summer paid internship

The APA Precollege and Undergraduate Education (PCUE) staff work to advance the teaching and learning of psychology in secondary schools, community colleges and undergraduate programs by providing resources and professional development opportunities to teachers, faculty members, and students. We provide support to the APA Committee of Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools and the APA Committee on Associate and Baccalaureate Education, facilitate the development and dissemination of education policies, and publish newsletters for educators and undergraduate students. The PCUE also manages a range of special initiatives and projects aimed at promoting high-quality psychology education such as teaching awards, student competitions, workshops, and conferences.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and accountability and to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual office environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities effectively and efficiently.
  • Exceptional research, writing and communication skills; Knowledge of APA style preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Remote work interns may not work from the following states or U.S. territories: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington, Wyoming.

Responsibilities

Intern projects vary but may include assisting in the organization, coordination, and planning of events and projects, drafting, editing, and reviewing language for resources, websites, and correspondence; assisting with research on topics such as teacher preparation and credentialing, writing or editing newsletter articles, tracking and reporting of project tasks and deliverables; and assisting with other duties as assigned.

Interns will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how the APA is working to elevate the public's understanding of, and regard for, the use of psychology and preparing the discipline and profession of psychology for the future.
  • Develop an understanding of how a nonprofit office operates.
  • Strengthen project management skills.
  • Practice writing effectively for different audiences.
  • Employ critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Cultivate workforce collaboration skills.

Job Location - Remote: APA internships may be considered for remote work eligibility as defined in APA's Flexible Work Policy and are subject to approval. Remote work interns may not work from the following states or U.S. territories: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington, Wyoming.
