Investment Accountant - Close and Analysis

Job Summary

The Investment Accountant is responsible for performing various duties related to accounting and reporting for investments.  This position is part of the Close and Analysis team within the organization’s Investment Center of Excellence (COE) structure and will be primarily responsible for the monthly reconciliation and controls of the Company’s investments in fixed income and other complex assets. The ideal candidate will enjoy collaborating with other teams, challenging current processes and driving efficiencies. 

Organization

This position reports to the Manager of Investment Accounting and has contact with various departments/areas, external Investment Managers, Third Party Administrators and Banks.

 Duties and Responsibilities

• Timely completion of GAAP and STAT reconciliation for investments between subledger (Clearwater) and general ledger (Oracle).  This includes researching and resolving variances and ensuring completeness and accuracy of general ledger balances.
• Prepare manual journal entries and assist in pulling general ledger details from Oracle on ad hoc basis.
• Perform monthly close tasks and procedures to ensure smooth and accurate Clearwater monthly close; communicate issues and work with the Clearwater team to resolve.
• Responsible for setting up new general ledger accounts and ensure mapping to new accounts is correct in Clearwater.
• Review transfers in Clearwater for completeness and accuracy; liaise with Clearwater and Middle Office to make revisions where needed.
• Proactively plan for contingencies and propose and implement process improvements.

• Support internal control objectives for Investment accounting by identifying key risks, adhering to controls, documenting controls for compliance and testing, assisting in the preparation of control self-assessments, and remediating any control gaps.
• Assist in the coordination of both external and internal audit requests.
• Provide regular updates to investment accounting management keeping them well-informed of any issues, shortcomings, or accomplishments of the team.
• Assist in other relevant projects and tasks as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance
• 1-3 years of experience

• Experience working in the Insurance industry (Life, annuity, reinsurance) preferred
• Clearwater, Oracle and Essbase experience preferred
