THE OPPORTUNITY

The CA Institute Investment Analyst or Associate (IA) will work at the intersection of the enterprise and the long-term investment portfolio. The position will be based in Boston and will be an integral member of Cambridge Associates' CA Institute, the firm's central hub for institutional research. The IA will report to the Head of the CA Institute and specialize in analysis and research that connects our nonprofit clients' business (enterprise) conditions and their investment portfolios. The position will also work closely with other CA Institute Investment Analysts and Directors.

The IA will respond to client requests and work with investment teams throughout the firm. The position will conduct enterprise and financial analysis, utilize models and datasets, and draft takeaways for client deliverables. The IA will source research from our databases and primary documents such as financial statements, ratings reports and investment reports. The IA will need to be comfortable managing multiple deadlines and working collaboratively with other team members and colleagues of the firm.

In addition to working on client engagements the IA will also support our annual research reports, topical surveys and roundtables. The IA will work with CA Institute directors to research topics, generate survey questions and conduct associated analysis to be included in reports and white papers.

Success in this position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, a keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing accurate work. The IA will be working with large datasets and producing research content that is widely consumed by clients and other colleagues. In addition, the position requires strong qualitative judgement to determine the proper tools and analysis that best supports their client needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyze client and prospect financial, investment and governance conditions from internal sources, financial statements, Moody's reports, and any other available sources to identify areas of focus for enterprise reviews and pitches.

• Generate enterprise review analysis and deliverables.

• Utilize CA Institute spending model and Portfolio Enterprise Risk (PER) model to inform client policies and expectations.

• Recommend use of other CA modeling and research resources to team where appropriate; utilize these resources and train team members.

• Support business development teams by developing an initial understanding of prospect's enterprise considerations, providing associated exhibits.

• Conduct industry and institutional research and contribute to research reports or briefs on timely topics of interest to our clients.

• Analyze peer data across clients on enterprise, governance, and portfolio topics; contribute to team's regular published research reports.

• Develop educational materials for investment analysts and directors on CA Institute topics and lead training sessions for investment analysts as part of initial and/or ongoing training program.

• Coordinate across client teams, research teams, and CA Institute team members to ensure that the most up-to-date CA Institute information and insights are being used across the firm and that all stakeholders can use this information to provide excellent client service.

• Collaborate with other CA Institute analysts, associates, and directors on research and client projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong academic credentials; BA/BS required
  • Minimum of 1 year investment experience and/or financial experience
  • 1-2 years of experience as Investment Analyst in the Endowment and Foundation practice preferred
  • Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience gained from working with endowment and foundation clients' investment and financial profiles
  • An ability to manage multiple projects, while ensuring integrity, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
  • Working knowledge of general investment theory and Cambridge Associates' related tools
  • Ability to listen and to understand the issues described by the client (or colleague) and to identify key drivers in the information gained from such conversations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently.
