Investment Associate (Boston, MA)
Job Description
Job Responsibilities: The Investment Associate will conduct quantitative analysis of investment opportunities to identify and propose industry sectors and specific companies for investment. Specifically, the Investment Associate will perform the following day-to-day job duties:
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of potential investment opportunities using economic methodologies, mathematical models, statistical techniques, and software including CapIQ, and research databases including CB Insights.
- Research business sectors, financial trends, and market trends and prepare in-depth analyses of financial metrics, financial forecasts, and business valuations.
- Organize and prepare presentations to explain industry trends and propose investment recommendations based on thorough qualitative and quantitative financial analyses.
- Conduct due diligence alongside a Deal Team and liaise with third party due diligence providers including investment bankers, accountants, and attorneys.
- Work with portfolio companies to develop strategic recommendations for business growth, evaluate adjacent market opportunities and inorganic acquisition opportunities, and prepare financial models and forecasts research.
- Attend trade shows and conferences to evaluate additions to Summit Partners’ proprietary database of private companies.
- 10% domestic and international travel to attend industry trade shows and conferences and meet with prospective companies.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field, plus two (2) years of experience conducting quantitative analysis in the fintech, auto tech, industrial technology, and IT services sectors at an investment bank or consulting firm. Experience must include (may be gained concurrently):
- Two (2) years of experience in industry analytics, valuation/return models, and M&A valuations using CapIQ and CB Insights;
- Two (2) years of live deal execution experience, both on the buy side and sell side, as well as capital markets experience; and
- Two (2) years of experience with due diligence processes including managing third parties and building detailed financial models and analytics to support transactions.
