GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Risk Management Intern will work with Investment Risk to support investment risk analysis, economic scenario generation and portfolio stress testing. Opportunity to gain a broad knowledge of Investment Risk Management through hands on training.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Currently pursuing a Masters in Science degree in Finance, Computational Finance, Financial Engineering, or similar disciplines.

None expected for this position.

The Risk Management Intern will work with Investment Risk to support investment risk analysis, economic scenario generation and portfolio stress testing. Opportunity to gain a broad knowledge of Investment Risk Management through hands on training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Builds, maintains and updates Risk Dashboards for the portfolios of American Equity, while ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Assists the Risk Teams in building investment risk models for private assets, perform stress testing analysis and asset class reviews.
- Obtains knowledge of software used for investment risk analysis including Blackrock Aladdin, Power BI, Python and SQL.
- Obtains general knowledge of fixed income markets and general understanding of finance, economics, accounting, investment, and insurance principles and practices.
- Performs other projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and modeling skills required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Highly detailed-oriented and well organized with strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel).
- Experience with Bloomberg is encouraged.
- Coding knowledge with any graphical package encouraged.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to comprehend and apply investment related principles of advanced mathematical concepts and theory, statistics, accounting, economics, and other practical solutions.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from coworkers and peers.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
LOCATION CONSIDERATIONS:
- We are open to having the summer intern work in our West Des Moines, IA, New York City, NY or Charlotte, NC office.
