Investments Internship (Summer 2024)
Job Description
What you can expect as the Investments Intern:
Using strong quantitative and communication skills, responsible for supporting Sammons Financial Group Asset Management (SFGAM) and its clients, Sammons Financial Group Companies, in the operations, governance, and analysis of investment portfolios and related risk management functions.
This role will receive direct exposure to the Company's Chief Investment Officer and the complexities behind managing a ~$100B investment portfolio supporting multiple business lines through unprecedented economic conditions.
This role will be subject to an SEC compliance program, which can include monitoring personal securities transactions, restrictions on outside business activities, as well other oversight and restrictions.
- Develop or enhance processes used to manage, analyze, and report information
- Participate in macroeconomic and financial market discussions
- Support special projects, new strategy, and other needs as assigned. This may include:
- Assist in the reporting, operational, and risk governance needs of investment portfolio
- Analyze trade-level data to support investment management decisions
- Develop analytical approaches to portfolio benchmarking and performance
- Assist in preparing comparative investment analysis across peers and the industry

What we are looking for:
- Individual pursuing their Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or related field preferred
- Related coursework or analytical experience preferred
- Prior internship experience preferred
- Strong PC proficiency with excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills required
- Must have a positive attitude and inquisitive nature towards learning new or complex topics
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to take data from several sources and organize, validate and analyze the data
- Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment within and outside of Sammons Financial Group (SFG) Asset Management and the ability to work in a positive and professional fashion toward common organization goals
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Must have a high level of self-initiative, attention to detail, confidence, and be a self-starter
- Must demonstrate strong adherence to teamwork and collaboration
- Excellent time management skills are necessary
- Ability to operate effectively with some level of autonomy and self-direction
- Criminal background check required
Our Internship program is designed to give students experience with projects and performing tasks within their hired work area. You will be exposed to other areas within the organization by participating in development, culture and volunteer events. This paid internship is 10-12 weeks in length with the possibility of extending hours into the school year.
Our internship program holds an 80/10/10 approach, meaning that 80% of your work time will involve performing tasks or working on projects within your hired work area. Another 10% of the time, you will be exposed to learning in other areas to get more corporate experience. Then, the final 10% will be spent in shared experiences across the organization, where you will get to really learn about our culture and work environment.
