ELECTRICAL IOT DESIGN ENGINEER

SALARY RANGE $65,000 - $85,000

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, with some latitude for un-reviewed action, plans and designs electrical & mechanical equipment, as approved for product development programs. Engages in hardware/software troubleshooting and end-user support of existing monitoring systems. May provide technical guidance and assistance to other Cornell Engineers, Technicians, Drafters and Sales personnel by performing duties outlined below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interface with sales representatives and end users to collect information about customer needs.
  • Develop project proposals including costs, economic project values and schedules.
  • Develop interfaces with industrial motor and engine control systems.
  • Design, schedule, and perform all required product testing and evaluate results. Advanced knowledge of data trends and analysis highly preferred.
  • Design, schedule, and perform all required product testing and evaluation of results.
  • Integrate Modbus, CANbus, & Ethernet IP equipment with IIOT devices.
  • Integrate sensors including (pressure transducers, flow meters, vibration accelerometers, level sensors, etc.) with IIOT devices.
  • Manage new/existing customer IIOT device activations and setups.
  • Investigate to determine causes of reported field problems with products, including warranty requests for failed products. This will require travel in some instances.
  • Provide dealer, end user, and sales staff training in product application and maintenance.
  • Provide technical support to other departments, including sales and manufacturing: field troubleshooting, product application, and value engineering and problem solving.
  • Meet with suppliers to discuss project goals, deadlines, and technical challenges.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or in Mechanbical Engineering or related fields and 0-5 years industry experience.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, CANbus)
  • Familiarity with engine, motor, and/or generator controllers
  • Knowledge of pressure transducers, flow meters, vibration accelerometers, and other rotating equipment sensors
  • Familiarity with UL/NEC standards for electrical design

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

FE/EIT (Fundamentals of Engineering) preferred
