General Summary:The Associate Software Engineer is an entry-level position at Unum designed to attract high-potential candidates looking to start their IT career. The Associate Software Engineer contributes to the analysis, design, testing, and delivery of software-based solutions while working as part of a collaborative team. This role provides a strong foundation for growth and development within Unum’s IT organization. The team follows a Kanban methodology, allowing flexibility and continuous delivery. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, learn from industry experts, and contribute to impactful projects from day one.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science (preferred) or equivalent IT experience

• 0-2 years of related IT experience.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

• Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.

• Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work effectively within a team.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in the analysis, design, coding, testing, and implementation of new and existing features for various applications.

• Collaborate with team members and managers to deliver assigned tasks in an agile environment.

• Engage in daily communication with your Scrum Master or Manager to report progress and discuss any blockers.

• Apply creative problem-solving to technical challenges, focusing on maximizing customer value.

• Continuously seek feedback through code reviews and retrospectives, contributing to the team’s improvement efforts.

• Ensure quality practices are followed, including peer reviews, design reviews, and automated testing.

• Stay aligned with Unum’s software architecture and standards while working on projects.

• Collaborate with Business Analysts and UX Designers to ensure technical requirements and designs are feasible and effectively implemented.

• Work closely with Test Engineers to ensure that deliverables meet the definition of done and transition smoothly through the development process.

• Embrace automation techniques, including continuous integration and release, to improve development efficiency.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$52,000.00-$101,000.00
