IT Enterprise Systems Engineer Senior / IT Enterprise Systems Engineer Principal - VDI Infrastructure and Automation
We are seeking an IT Professional with responsibilities for the design, engineering, deployment, and maintenance of high-availability and secure Enterprise Remote Desktop systems and services. In this role the Engineer will work on a team supporting VDI infrastructure and tools including VMWare Horizon, Azure Virtual Desktops, AWS Workspaces, VMWare Aria, SolarWinds, Identity Management, and Storage Solutions in multiple Enterprise and isolated environments. The Engineer will be expected to team with peers, internal customers, and management to provide technical solutions and lead projects to strengthen the consistency and standardization of IT infrastructure through automation and enterprise services to achieve operational excellence and program success. While this position is an individual contributor role, collaboration and strong technical knowledge and skills will be essential attributes.
What You'll Do:
- Responsible for the design, engineering, deployment, and maintenance of high-availability and secure Enterprise Information Technology systems and Infrastructure Services.
- Engineer and implement automation and advanced technologies to support hardware, virtual, and commercial cloud hosted environments.
- Work includes technical planning (cost, capacity, logistics), architecture, design, implementation, configuration management, maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, mitigation efforts, and monitoring of services and solutions.
- Continuous evaluation of currently deployed and emerging Remote Desktop and Access solutions to evolve business operations. Define process and success criteria for new technology proof of concepts.
- Assist with the creation of key performance indicators and metrics reports and dashboards to represent service health and user experience.
- Perform customer outreach to support service enhancements and troubleshooting.
- Provide technical and project leadership for the development of advanced solutions, assist with project direction, milestone planning, and completion.
- Interface with internal customers, program security, and management teams in planning for, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting services and systems.
- Assist management with VDI service roadmaps and service lifecycle management.
- Document technical processes and procedures as needed.
- Represent the VDI Team in meetings, including solution, architecture, and security reviews.
- Facilitate technical and group discussions.
- Cross train and assist with technical development of less experienced team members.
- Work under minimal direction to determine, develop, and provide solutions/enhancements adhering to strict Information Systems security guidelines.
- Leverage troubleshooting skills to address stability objectives both reactively and proactively.
- Participate in on-call rotations.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
- Engineer Senior - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
- Engineer Principal - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active security clearance is preferred.
- Certification meeting DoD 8570 compliance preferred, ability to obtain within 6 months required.
- 4 or more years of experience supporting a VMWare Horizon environment preferred.
- Expertise in the following preferred:
- Windows System Administration.
- VMware VCAP level experience managing Data Center and Network Virtualization.
- Knowledge of DOD Information Assurance practices and System Accreditation processes including configuring physical and virtual hosts to DISA STIG requirements.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services core service components.
- Scripting / Automation technologies such as Windows Powershell, JSON, Ansible, Terraform, etc.
- Excellent documentation skills, organization skills, and the ability to interact with team members cross-functionally.
- Superb communication skills. Ability to translate highly technical details into easy-to-understand concepts.
- Excellent organization and project management/project coordination skills.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Relocation for this position is not available.
Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR ENGINEER SENIOR: $131,000 - $165,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR ENGINEER PRINCIPAL: $147,000 - $185,250 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
