$130,000.00 /Yr. - $155,000.00 /Yr.

Actual starting pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Cash Bonus Target: 10%

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Restricted Stock Units Bonus Target: 10%

These discretionary target bonuses may be awarded semi-annually based upon your achievement of performance goals and targets.

About This Job

We are seeking a seasoned Program Manager with over 10 years of experience leading multiple complex software development projects to join our PMO. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead a diverse team in the successful delivery of enterprise-wide projects and programs, supporting both the project management lifecycle and the software development lifecycle. This includes managing financials, schedules, producing metrics and reports, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs and interfacing with senior leadership. This position will manage a team of Project Managers, requiring strong leadership skills, proven project management expertise, and the ability to communicate effectively across various functions to be successful in this role. This position will be onsite and located at our HQ in San Diego, CA. Remote or Hybrid is not available.

Responsibilities:

Program Management (~50-75%)

  • Oversee successful project and program planning, governance, and delivery:
    • Organize and monitor inter-connected projects and identify interdependencies. Work with Program Manager counterparts on inter-connected projects to minimize risk to the scope, schedule, or budget.
    • Plan the overall program and monitor progress to make sure the milestones are being met across the various projects and programs.
    • Manage the risks and issues that arise over the program and be an escalation point to resolve these issues and risks.
    • Tracks all key metrics pertaining to a program, provides early warning for potential metric deviations and escalates in a timely manner when metrics deviate significantly from the baseline plan.
    • Drive process accountability by making sure the team is following documented PMO processes and procedures including the creation and completion of accurate artifacts.
    • Create overarching plan to address key issues related to projects within the program
    • Conduct project close out reviews as well as spot checks to ensure compliance with the process.
    • Drive/challenge discussions with experts achieving optimal outcomes.
  • Demonstrate an extensive understanding of project management processes and procedures, planning and scheduling methods, and budget management as well as the ability to organize, schedule, and coordinate work to meet established milestones and budgets.
  • Ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of non-routine matters of diverse scope and nature.
  • Drive effective communication. Ensure all business and IT stakeholders are receiving the appropriate level of project information.

  • Review project related documents with key stakeholders to ensure documentation is accurate, thorough, and ready for architecture review. Review benefits realization and cost to make sure the requests make sense before going to the business for a final decision.
  • Meet with business stakeholders on product roadmap and provide input and support. Create a product roadmap for each program as needed. Partner with stakeholders to identify and execute on the program strategy and roadmap.
  • Contribute to the strategy of the PMO by identifying areas to streamline process and drive improvements. Work with the SVP to develop an evaluation program to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
  • Be accountable for program metrics and reporting. Prepare reporting related to the program as required by the SVP/EVP/CEO.
  • Lead and develop the PMs on your team. Provide strategic guidance. Manage team to drive consistencies and efficiencies.
  • Work with your team to ensure the fiscal year goals are met. Monitor and report your team’s progress on goals monthly (or more frequently if needed).
  • Using verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Project Management (25-50%)

  • Direct and manage project development from inception to completion and according to Axos’ PMLC process for projects with a high level of complexity, scope, visibility and budget. Emphasis will be on quality, on time delivery, and on budget delivery.
  • Oversee successful project and program planning, governance and delivery:
  • Prepare/Author key project documentation including project plans, project charters, communication plans, and other documentation in alignment with Axos’ PMLC/SDLC processes for critical projects as needed.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
  • Coordinate internal resources and vendors for the flawless execution of Agile and Waterfall projects.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear manner.
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks.
  • Keep management and key stakeholders well informed on a timely basis on project progress, status and/or concerns to ensure that expectations and satisfaction are met or exceeded.
  • Ensure project objectives conform to enterprise goals, technology, and operational standards.
  • Track project milestones, budgets/expenses, and performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short- and long-term goals and deliverables.
  • Plan, lead, guide, document and execute project execution routines including (but not limited to) status meetings, daily scrum, backlog grooming, requirement development, sprint planning, etc.
  • Meet or exceed budgetary objectives and adjust project constraints based on financial analysis.
  • Conduct project lessons learned/sprint retrospectives and create a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Ensure alignment and adherence to milestones and objectives.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Coach, mentor, and motivate project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, business, logistics or related field.
  • Program Management leadership experience, including 10+ years leading multiple complex software development projects.
  • Experience managing or working with IT software development projects required.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the project management life cycle required.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the software development life cycle required.
  • Previous direct report/leadership experience is required.
  • Prior experience with SCRUM/Agile methodologies with enterprise level application development projects required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix environment, exhibit influence at all levels and build strong partnerships across organizations to deliver complex programs.
  • Outstanding communication skills and prior experience working with executive-level audiences
  • Strong technical knowledge with the ability both understand and explain to senior leaders.
  • Ability to rally teams behind your execution plan, communicate a clear story of challenges and opportunities, and align executive teams on program outcomes.
