Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary 

Kairos Power is seeking an IT Security Engineer to support the corporate IT infrastructure and SaaS application platforms at multiple sites. You will be responsible for managing the cybersecurity program using regulatory controls to ensure compliance. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying improvements to existing infrastructure using gap analyses and best practices. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing mature cybersecurity programs ata utility-scale energy company or at an organization who adheres to NIST 800-171 controls. 

Responsibilities

  • Engineer, implement and monitor security measures to protect systems and information infrastructure (including firewalls, on-premises wired and wireless networking, data encryption at-rest and in-flight, etc.)  
  • Identify and define system security requirements and enforce internal IT security policies and procedures (including data handling, acceptable use, etc.)  
  • Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks 
  • Work with IT infrastructure teams to perform penetration and compliance tests to identify network vulnerabilities and proactively fix identified vulnerabilities Design computer security architecture and develop detailed cyber security design. 
  • Review security design of existing infrastructure, make recommendations to executive leadership, and create detailed cyber security designs
  • Respond to and conduct investigations for security incidents, and create impact assessments 
  • Develop a modern, automated security reporting toolset that ensures regulatory compliance and internal visibility 
  • Train IT staff on security best practices and how to respond to SIEM alerts 
  • Manage the relationships with, and work product of, third-party cybersecurity services 
  • Develop company-wide best practices for IT security; Manage third-party cybersecurity awareness program 
  • Maintain knowledge of current IT security trends, news, and applicable regulatory controls  

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in IT security engineering  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field; Masters is a plus 
  • Experience in a high-growth, medium/enterprise scale organization 
  • Thorough knowledge of networking principles, cloud computing (AWS experience required), integrating databases, APIs  
  • Knowledge of data protection operations and legislation (ITAR, GDPR, 10 CFR 810) 
  • Practical experience ensuring compliance with NIST 800-171 or NIST 800-53 frameworks 
  • Current experience building a zero-trust architecture leveraging Workspace ONE, Azure AD, SSO 
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and embrace constant changes and challenges 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and/or third-party vendors 
  • Analytical, metrics-driven approach to IT security 
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills 
  • Working knowledge of modern information security practices 
  • Experience working for an engineering or industrial/manufacturing company 
  • Experience in a highly-regulated industry, especially within the government community, preferred
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth startup, preferred
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently  
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge

The salary range for this position is $103,300 to $121,500 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.  Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
