IT Specialist / Linux Administrator

Description

ActioNet has an immediate opportunity for an IT specialist / Linux System Admin requiring a Public Trust clearance located in Lakeland, Fl. In this role, you will be responsible for providing IT support to Department of Commerce desktop users, and for supporting, maintaining, and updating IT systems that are used in the Department of Commerce workplace, on research vessels, and on research aircraft. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player who can work both independently and within a team environment. Possess the ability to work in a challenging environment producing positive results that demonstrates a high degree of attention to quality, detail, correctness and deadlines in a multi-tasking, priority changing environment. Must be able to work with a variety of people and departments and maintain confidentiality. Must be available to work and provide help desk support after normal business hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, deploy, configure, secure, and troubleshoot workstations and servers in a Linux environment
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with Linux-based systems, including hardware and software problems
• Install and deploy Linux software packages and troubleshoot broken installations and package management conflicts
• Provide day to day IT desktop support for the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center
• Perform system updates
• Patch management
• Manage AD and Centrify to create, modify, and remove accounts
• Develop SOPs and Knowledge Articles
• Perform Ticket and queue management
• Provide remote support for the NOAA Aircaft mission personnel.

Basic Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems, including RedHat Linux and clones such as AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux
• Strong understanding of networking protocols and services, such as TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, SSH, and DHCP
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and KVM
• Possess Tier I support monitoring and managing ticket queue
• Possess Tier 2 user desktop support either remotely or onsite
• Working knowledge of Windows server administration
• Mid-level experience with Active Directory configuration and administration
• Mid-level experience with preparation of and troubleshooting computer hardware and
  software
• Experience with the use of Remote access tools such as ssh or vnc

Preferred:

• Experience writing bash shell scripts for Linux administrative purposes or for troubleshooting
• Experience using an automated system administration tools such as Ansible or Puppet
• Configure Smart Card/CAC for Linux system authentication, experience with DISA Stig baseline configuration for Linux systems, Centrify, Ansible, and Red Hat Identity management experience
• Mid-level understanding of networking and networking principals
• Mid-level understanding of networking and networking principals
