IT Systems Engineer

Highly motivated and experienced Systems Engineer to join ScienceLogic’s IT Operations team!  This team is responsible for providing Systems, Network, and other infrastructure design, implementation, and support to ScienceLogic’s internal and cloud infrastructure.  The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast paced environment, be able to give direction for junior team members, work as an individual and team contributor while being self-accountable, and provide   

What you’ll be doing… 
 

• Driving all Microsoft 365 and Azure initiatives, such as the planning, migration and operations of both hybrid and cloud-only configurations, Intune Endpoint Manager, and security hardening.  
• Implement Azure based Single Sign On for business critical applications. 
• Ensuring software, hardware, systems, and networks run smoothly and support our growing staff.
• Execute and successfully complete projects and evaluate new technologies/platforms to determine their applicability to solving ScienceLogic’s business challenges and needs.
• Analyze existing systems and infrastructure lifecycle to determine industry-forward best practices for upgrades or replacements best suited for business needs.  
• Design, implement, maintain, troubleshoot, and configure IT system implementations including physical or virtual infrastructure components including but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, servers, and storage arrays.
• Research, select, and implement various systems and network security solutions.
• Leveraging Endpoint Manager Policies or Active Directory Group Policy to push out security and compliance configurations, and applications. 
• Perform day-to-day operations tasks including VM provisioning, IPsec VPN tunnel provisioning, implementing secure connections with public cloud resources, responding to alerts and incidents, etc. 
• Work with internal teams on the planning and configuration of new business solutions requiring IT oversight, integration or management.  
• Ensuring systems and network devices and services are up and running 24x7x365. 
• Perform all activities in keeping with established change management and approval procedures. 
• Participate in on-call schedule for after-hours and weekend support. 
• Execute and complete systems + network projects based on ScienceLogic internal and customer facing needs. 
• Supporting the service desk team as needed, including being an escalation point, creating process/procedures/policies to aid in knowledge transfer among the team. 
• Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. 
• Tier 3 escalation support for any infrastructure-related issues on the IT network. 
• Collaborate with the security team to review and improve our current security posture. 

Qualities you possess… 

• BS in Computer Science, or similar fields. Education requirement can be substituted with demonstrated commensurate experience.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Expert understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Certificate Services, DNS, DHCP, LDAPS, Bitlocker, Windows 10/11. 
• Knowledge of Microsoft server and client OS patching strategies.   
• Experience administering cloud based Microsoft technologies, including Office 365, Intune, Teams, Exchange, and Azure Active Directory. 
• Experience with Identity Management products, such as Active Directory, Azure, AD Connect, O365 and MFA solutions. 
• Experience with secure authentication protocols such as SAML and OAUTH for increasing identity and access management security with Single Sign On. 
• Experience working in hybrid environments that leverage Azure or AWS. 
• Excellent understanding of virtualization technologies particularly VMWare but also including Hyper-V, KVM. 
• Familiarity with PowerShell for Windows administration, Office365, Azure and VMware. 
• Experience with server and networking datacenter infrastructure. 
• Familiarity with enterprise storage solutions such as Pure and Datrium, as well as protocols such as iSCSI, NFS, SMB/CIFS. 
• Understanding of TCP/IP and network troubleshooting with Wireshark or similar tools. 
• Experience in backup solutions and design. 
• Motivated learner, able to quickly learn new technologies and keep skills current with emerging technologies. 
• Proficiency in the design and implementation of critical business systems and technical solutions. 
• Demonstrate efficient and effective use of problem-solving, troubleshooting, project management and task prioritization to solve complex systems and network challenges. 
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information both verbally and in writing to teams with varying levels of technical expertise and security knowledge, as well as executive management.
• Solid understanding of IT best practices. 
• Experience with Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, SoftLayer) systems, networking and security is a plus. 
• Linux system administration is a plus. 
• Networking experience with datacenter infrastructure, and cloud based routing is a plus. 
• Experience hardening Windows environments, for example CIS Controls, STIGs, etc. is a plus. 
• Experience with CI/CD is a plus. 
• Kubernetes, docker, and other containerization technology experience is a plus.
