Summary

• IT Systems Engineer will focus on the design, implementation, optimization of existing infrastructure environments and backups. This role spans enterprise hardware, software and operations (scalability, HA, DR, data migration). Be an active member of the Data Center Engineering team providing compute and data storage planning, provisioning, deployment, and support with VMware, UCS, SAN, NAS, and Backup environments.
  Responsibilities
  • Maintaining day to operations of VMware infrastructure including server and desktop virtualization technologies
  • Maintaining of SAN and switching infrastructure in a fast paced, highly available environment.
  • Work with infrastructure and application development to analyze system metrics and modify compute/storage resources and backup parameters for optimization as needed
  • Create/update detailed disaster recovery documentation for the Backup and Storage infrastructure. Participate in regular testing of the disaster recovery plan.
  • Day to day technical support, proactive monitoring and management, evaluation of new and emerging technologies, and maintaining vendor support relationships
  • Provides technical support (including participation in a 24x7 on call rotation) for complex production systems and services
  • Proactively monitors infrastructure for optimal performance and provide input for capacity planning
  • Maintain operational status of physical hardware through on-site visits or smart hands remote assistance.
  Knowledge and Experience
  • Prior working experience with Storage Area Networks; NetApp, Pure, and Nexsan preferred
  • Knowledge of Switch Fabric technologies, particularly Brocade switching technology
  • Understanding of scalable systems - throughput, latency, cache, and resource analysis
  • Understanding of Backup and Tape Library software/hardware and processes, Commvault preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMware, Windows, Linux, AIX, Horizon View, and Citrix
  • Good troubleshooting, reasoning, and communication skills
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation
  • Follow Change Control methodologies
  • Bash and Powershell scripting skills
  • Requirements
    • 4 year degree or equivalent experience with 3+ years experience for enterprise scale production environments
    • Strong understanding of compute/storage tools and security practices
    • Working knowledge of enterprise class Backup and Tape Library systems
    • 3+ years experience with VMware, Windows, Linux and AIX
    • 3+ years experience with physical compute such as UCS, HPE and Dell blade systems
