An IT Team Manager plans, organizes, leads, directs and controls IT resources, making appropriate resource assignments to effectively and efficiently execute the day-to-day tasks relevant to the specific responsibilities of their job.

The scope of responsibilities of an IT Team Manager is typically limited to one or two activities within the I.S. lifecycle - including enhancement; testing; deployment; maintenance; operations. Those reporting to a Team Manager administratively will be individual contributors, i.e. a Team Manager will not be managing other managers. They manage effective working relationships with other departments, groups and employees as required, and have the capability to become a representative of IT in this capacity. A Team Manager can demonstrate success in bringing the value of IT to solve business issues while managing costs and risk. They work under the close guidance of their direct manager while developing more comprehensive project management, leadership and relationship management skills. They also involve their direct manager as appropriate during their decision making. The IT Manager will be introduced to the budget process and be responsible for spending within their determined limits.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational management of an IT team of employees.
• Sets short term goals and objectives for their area of responsibility, and plans, organizes and controls the work necessary to achieve same.
• Manage a single project of moderate scope and complexity, a portion of a large project, or multiple smaller projects simultaneously.
• Directly manages employees, including: interviewing and selection, performance management, coaching, evaluating performance, development, assigning tasks and setting individual expectations and objectives.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree and progressive IT experience.
• Must have demonstrated leadership capabilities, and have either proven to be technically proficient in one or more Information Systems' disciplines, or have relevant business experience or knowledge combined with a strong technical acumen.
• Excellent relationship building, communication and collaboration skills.
• Sound time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
