Java Developer Internship

MHK is offering a paid Summer Internship. During a 10-week period beginning in June, this Developer Intern will make an impact by contributing to Software Development at our Tampa office. Our interns are presented with business challenges and can offer real solutions that make a difference across all areas of our company, all while learning the skills needed to successfully navigate the modern development workplace.

You'll also get professional hands-on experience with relevant technology, including: Java, Spring, Hibernate, REST/SOAP Webservices, Tomcat application server, MySQL, GWT Google web toolkit, DBMS, Skybot, and AWS Cloud.

What You'll Do Here at MHK

As a Developer Intern, you will participate in the software development process and handle bug fixes within our software platform. The intern candidate for this role should be ready to work on cross functional program streams, while continuing the innovation of our software platform.

• Code web applications, middleware, and production support activities
• Attend stand-ups
• Develop new web APIs or web services
• Support infrastructure upgrades and testing
• Participate in cloud integration work in AWS
• Bug fixes
• Manage Jira backlog for work items
• Production support activities (reporting or minor fixes/enhancements)
• Work onsite and contribute in-person both professionally and culturally (3X per week)

What We Look for in an Intern

• You're currently enrolled full time at a 4-year accredited college or university, pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems or a related technical field
• Students must have at least one remaining semester of school left after completion of internship
• Local to Tampa and able to work hybrid (2-3X onsite per week) to participate in both team strategy and contribution
• Ability to start Full time work with us for 10 weeks beginning June 2023
• Basic exposure and general understanding of:

o Cloud technologies

o Core Java (including backend solutions)

o J2EE, Spring, Hibernate exposure

o Understanding of Agile

o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Teams

• Self starter with a drive for results and taking initiative
• Ability to be resourceful and adaptable
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• US work authorization

What to Expect Next in the Hiring Process

• After completion and submission of your application, you may be asked to participate in a virtual video interview or phone screen with our Talent Acquisition Manager. Be ready to discuss any side projects you are most proud of!
• Participate in a follow-up interview with member(s) of the Development team that will involve some general technical questions. This may also include a technical exercise to demonstrate the depth of your skills.
• As a final step, we would want you to come visit to our beautiful office in Tampa to see what we're doing and meet some of our team members in person before you start!
