- Manage the end-to-end publication process for assigned journals: Independently and collaboratively provide manuscript submission system and editorial process support. Provide first-line support to Editors, addressing system queries and article status throughout the publication process. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of content according to established production schedules, working closely with editorial offices, freelancers, and suppliers to advance the production process.
- Establish professional relationships with all stakeholders, including societies, editorial offices, authors, and commercial sales teams. As the primary day-to-day contact for all production matters, employ the highest level of customer service for both internal and external contacts.
- Support and uphold enhanced editorial criteria as established by societies and their editorial offices. Assist authors throughout the proofing process to ensure accurate implementation of all corrections and help address author queries. Coordinate closely with commercial sales on ad placement and commercial supplement requirements.
- Provide reliable status information: Maintain a transparent, open line of communication with internal and external customers regarding status of items and issues, including implication of delays to support sound decision making. Complete tasks and re-plan issues in Elsevier's workflow management system, thereby ensuring accurate and timely status reporting. Prepare reports as needed for society editorial offices, journal publishers, and production management.
- Participate in continuous improvement and promotion of best practices: Work jointly with colleagues to regularly review processes and performance to ensure the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction. Support society requirements and preferences while also taking a proactive and forward-thinking approach towards recommending best practices. Recommend alternatives to traditional workflows to operate faster and at lower costs.
Requirements
- Successful Journal Managers have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including as a strong attention to detail and the ability to be organized and multi-task. A strong command of English, including grammar and usage, along with basic aptitude for proofreading is key. Microsoft Office experience, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Skills are needed. Experience using manuscript submission system software is preferred. Applicants should have two to three years in an editorial production environment, ideally collaborating with authors and editors. Direct experience working closely with customers is a plus. A Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field of study, is required.
