Job Description

Climate Robotics is a venture-backed startup based in Houston, TX. We are building the next generation of agricultural machinery to produce biochar, a powerful soil amendment that improves soil health and sequesters atmospheric carbon. We seek dynamic and adventurous engineers to join our team in developing in-field pyrolysis systems. You will work to bring pioneering technology to life, running prototype reactors, finding innovative solutions, and optimizing the biochar production process. Work includes the commissioning and troubleshooting of prototype equipment, operation, maintenance, and repair of production systems, and in-field operation of pyrolysis systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate R&D and prototype mobile pyrolysis systems, both stationary and in the field
  • Assist in the design, set up, and optimization of conveyance and collection systems
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot prototype systems and electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Interpret technical documents such as diagrams, schematics, assembly drawings, or other verbal, digital, or written instructions to assemble, wire, and install heavy electro-mechanical equipment
  • Diagnose equipment and machinery problems and document malfunctions
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical problems and minimize downtime
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs and perform necessary safety checks
  • Resolve other crises when they arise
  • Install new systems and technology
  • Operate agricultural equipment & machinery
  • Carry out proper maintenance of onsite equipment and machinery
  • Collect data and note observations in provided templates
  • Assist with drafting reports into failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Contribute to the timely upkeep of the standard operating procedures to ensure continued and repeatable success in the future
  • Adhere to project deadlines and meet deliverables
  • Demonstrate a quick and flexible approach to problem-solving
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience with agricultural equipment and plant machinery
  • Familiarity with automation and process control
  • Experience with electric and hydraulic motors, gearboxes, chain and belt drives, screw conveyance, material conveyance
  • Ability to interpret sensor data to diagnose the operation of pyrolysis equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field, preferably mechanical
  • 1-2 years of applicable experience
  • Travel as needed to customer sites or test sites (up to 50%)
  • Available to work a rotating shift schedule

Work Environment

  • Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Frequent movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
