We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, dedicated people to join Alcon. As a Jr. Data Scientist to join our Commercial Data Science team in Fort Worth, TX. As a Jr. Data Scientist, you will need to work with both structured and unstructured data and help make sophisticated solutions simple to drive business implementation. Communicating outputs will be key to success in the role so spending time understanding and learning the commercial businesses will be vital. At times, there will be need to advise on how to solve problems that don't have clear solutions so the Jr. Data Scientist will need to demonstrate critical thinking and innovation.

In this role, a typical day will include:

• Able to build, clean, and manipulate data to make concrete datasets for both analysis and machine learning projects.
• Perform exploratory data analysis of data sources to provide actionable insights, both to inform business decisions as well as to plan for AI/ML projects.
• Build automated jobs that create automated insights/analysis from deployed ML models
• Willingness to develop and refine Python skills, that can be integrated into production level projects.
• Producing and disseminating non-technical reports that detail the process, successes, and limitations of each project.
• Ability to explain results through visualization that effectively describes key observations in the data.
• Present outputs to a Senior Data Scientist and Commercial Leadership and adjust based on the feedback.
• Staying informed about developments in Data Science and adjacent fields to ensure that outputs are always relevant.
• Beginner understanding of statistical programming in a language such as R, SAS, or Python and/or familiarity with auto-ML tools such as DataRobot. Strong preference for Python.
• Familiarity with working in Agile methodology and Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and BitBucket
• Intermediate (advanced preferred) understanding of data transformation with tools such as SQL, AWS, and Alteryx.
• Intermediate (advanced preferred) understanding of data visualization with tools such as Tableau

What you'll bring to Alcon:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs.; Assoc.+6 yrs.; M.S.+0 yrs.)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
• 2 Years of Relevant Experience

Work hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Preferred Experience/Skills:

• Great at solving problems, debugging, troubleshooting, and crafting & implementing solutions to sophisticated technical issues.
• Thrive with collaboration and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong technical and analytical abilities, a passion for driving impact and growth, and some experience with programming/scripting.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
