Junior Bioinformatician Intern

Complete an internship project at SOPHiA GENETICS whose mission is to build the future of AI-assisted medicine. Joining the Pipeline Development Team as a Junior Bioinformatician Intern. 

Your mission: 

The project's purpose is to contribute to the partial automation of the production of customized Instructions for Use (IFUs) documents for custom genomics application pipelines. This automation will enhance the efficiency of IFU production and enable the integration of an adapted pipeline release process with the IFU production process. 

As an Intern you will be working closely with members of the pipeline development team and with the scientific writers who will guide the knowledge transfer regarding pipeline development and IFU production, respectively.  

You will be involved in: 

• Analyzing and understanding SOPHiA GENETICS’s framework for generating customized Instructions for Use (IFUs) for genomics applications. 

• Familiarizing yourself with the genomics application pipeline code base to support the automation process. 

• Participating actively in the design, implementation, and testing phases of the automation project. 

• Coding in Bash and/or Python to build tools that will automate the production of customized IFUs. 

• Collaborating closely with the pipeline integration team and scientific writers to ensure seamless integration between pipeline development and IFU production processes. 

The experience you bring: 

• Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., computer science, bioinformatics, physics) where programming or coding is required. 

• Knowledge of the Git versioning system. 

• Proficiency in Bash and/or Python. 

• Strong interest in knowledge management and the challenges of creating comprehensive software documentation. 

• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. 

• Ability to ask for clarification when necessary, demonstrating resilience, attention to detail, and a strong results-oriented mindset. 

What you will learn: 

• Gain hands-on experience with the automation of high-precision medical software documentation processes. 

• Understand the complexities and challenges of producing customized Instructions for Use (IFUs) in genomics. 

• Develop insights into industry-standard knowledge management and document creation techniques. 

• Enhance your coding skills in Bash and/or Python by working on real-world automation tools. 

• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team across various functions, including scientific writers and pipeline developers, gaining valuable teamwork and communication experience in a professional setting.

Contract type: 6-month internship
