Junior Data Scientist

Lightspeed Systems is looking for a Junior Data Scientist to join our small, multidisciplinary data team dedicated to the design and implementation of machine learning workflows for the unique data that is generated across Lightspeed Systems product lines. 

You’ll work directly with stakeholders from different teams to fully own the outcomes and impact of your work. With proven data skills and a hunger for learning, you’ll help us continue to grow a curious, data-literate company culture. 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

• Use rigorous methods (including ML) to understand business challenges and uncover valuable insights and predictions in support of our partner teams and customers 
• Leverage our unique, expansive data in order to improve student safety, technological equity, and teacher effectiveness
• Explore the potential and feasibility of data science to support future applications of our data
• Keep up with the latest developments in the data science field
• Contribute to data documentation that fosters data literacy and encourages responsible use of data throughout the company 

ABOUT YOU

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline  
• Prior experience as a data scientist or data analyst, working to derive business value from large datasets a plus
• Experience with natural language processing (NLP) for machine learning problems
• Strong understanding of statistical analysis Strong knowledge and understanding of data science, including basic elements of machine learning, statistics, and probability
• Strong communication skills (written, visual, and verbal) to ask the right questions when taking on a new problem, or share findings and discoveries with teammates and stakeholders
• Comfortable using SQL to explore and work with data
• Hands-on experience using AWS SageMaker or other cloud-based machine learning platform preferred
• A passion for supporting Lightspeed Systems’ mission to provide safe, secure, and equitable education technology for K-12 customers.
