Purpose of the Role:
Reporting to the Manager, Fund Accounting, you will work closely within the team, as well as with internal departments and external service providers, to increase efficiencies and strive for continuous improvement and excellence in our day-to-day deliverables. You will be a key resource assisting with the review process for the fund’s Net Asset Value calculation, distributions, and fund operations. Â
Core Responsibilities:
- Assist the team in reviewing Net Asset Values (NAVs) of Nicola Funds/LPs daily to ensure accuracy of valuations and reconcile discrepancies.
- Support the calculation and in-depth review of fund distributions, management fees, performance fees, and other fund expenses.
- Aid in the year-end audit process to ensure timely sign-off of the funds’ financial statements.
- Handle tax-related tasks, such as reviewing non-resident withholding tax, obtaining tax IDs from authorities, tracking underlying investments’ tax slips, filling out tax forms, and reviewing investors’ tax slips, coordinating with external tax advisors as necessary.
- Support AP/AR function of fund operations, including preparing wire instructions for fund expenses (both external and internal) and investment fundings, and tracking incoming wires, such as distributions from underlying investments, to guarantee timely receipt and thorough documentation.
- Build excellent working relationships with internal departments, external service providers, and fund managers to ensure smooth day-to-day fund operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of accounting work experience.Â
- Experience working in financial services, general experience/knowledge in tax, and knowledge of fund accounting/operations are all preferred.
- Pursuing a CPA/CFA designation.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., macros, pivot tables).
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
Compensation & Benefits Package:
This position comes with a base salary range of $55,000-$70,000 plus a competitive performance bonus, RRSP contribution and participation in our profit-sharing program. Base salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
