The Perry Street Software Globalization Team works with the cutting edge of localization and internationalization technologies. We use a combination of engineer-friendly third-party localization tools and proprietary software to ensure seamless localized content delivery in 15+ languages. We believe that people do their best work when given ownership over that work, and we expect each team member to take an active role in shaping our tools and processes.
We are hiring a part-time junior software developer to help us run day-to-day localization operations for the next generation of LBGTQ+ dating apps. This role will occasionally support the Content team with developing React Native templates and web pages. This role requires an engineer who enjoys solving problems on their own. We are a small, agile company with a heavy focus on cross-enablement, giving you the opportunity to learn about many different aspects of software development. If you want to deepen your localization and internationalization skills while learning about coding for native apps, this job is for you.
What you'll do:
- Develop workflow automations and string manipulation scripts in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Ruby, Kotlin, Swift, and other languages of your preference
- Curate the strings files across all repositories (Android, iOS, server, website, etc), ensuring compliance with key naming conventions and organization principles
- Help develop localization and internationalization solutions end to end, from the design, to requirements, coding, refactoring, delivery, and maintenance
- Own your projects from start to finish, reporting progress to multiple stakeholders, collaborating with colleagues, and seeking assistance from your manager when needed
- Support our React Engineer with developing web pages and React Native templates, serving as their backup when necessary
- Excel at communication with our distributed, remote team
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, computer science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience (code schools / boot camps welcome!)
- 2-3 years of software development experience
- 1-2 years experience with React, HTML, CSS, etc.
- Strong experience with moderate to complex scripting tasks
- Experience building two-way integrations using third-party APIs
- Some experience with internationalization and localization for Android and/or iOS
- Some experience with internationalization for web
- Strong sense of ownership, ability to work independently, and demonstrated track record of project delivery
- Fluent in English
Nice to Have:
- You know what i18n and l10n mean
- Deep interest in languages and linguistics
- Proficient in a language other than English
- Experience using translation management systems (TMS)
- Experience with content management systems (CMS)
- Proficient use of React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript, and/or Ruby
- Some SQL/MySQL experience
- Knowledge of Java, Kotlin, or Swift with the Android or iOS SDK
