Junior System Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an entry level Jr. Systems Engineer that can thrive in a challenging and rewarding environment. The Jr. Systems Engineer's role is to ensure the stable operation of all computer systems and network connections. This includes planning, implementing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all systems and network software. The person will also analyze and resolve end user system and connectivity issues in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training where required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Datacenter infrastructure and operations knowledge
• Administration of local area network, servers, virtual machines, storage, databases etc.
• Manage all operating systems and their corresponding or associated software.
• Manage communications and connection solutions, including local area networks, company web site, intranet, and internet applications.
• Manage and ensure the integrity of host computers, multiple databases, and disk storage devices.
• Provide on-call technical support.
• Analyze system or application usage and plan for growth or increases in disk and network capacity.
• Assess need for any system reconfigurations and execute them if required.
• Ensure connectivity of all systems on-prem and cloud based.
• Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
• Perform system and security audits.
• Perform, manage and troubleshooting of backups with Rubrik
• Monitor and test server software performance and provide statistics and reports.
• Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases.
• Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines or to address after hours system issues.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Associates degree in the field of computer science and or 2 years of work experience in IT.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements

• Basic technical knowledge of SAN, Servers/Blade Enclosures.
• Basic skills installing, configuring and troubleshooting server operating systems (i.e, Linux, and Windows).
• Experience with virtual environments such as VMware, Horizon, and VMC on AWS.
• Experience with AWS administration and support
• Working technical knowledge of O365.
• Working technical knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP roles.
• Basic knowledge of local area network administration.
• Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
• Scripting knowledge/experience preferred to perform day to day routine tasks.
• Experience administering system monitoring products such as Nagios.
• Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
• Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
• Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.
• Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.
• Highly self-motivated and directed.

• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
