Role Summary

The role of a Junior Test Engineer is to perform wide-ranging technical quality assurance activities on varied applications and environments. The individual will understand and use various testing methodologies during the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and has good knowledge of different testing tools, such as Microsoft TFS and Jira to support the QA phase.

The jobholder must have good communication skills for effective dialogue with local colleagues, with the ability to deliver work that meets to the time and quality targets set by seniors within the QA team. The individual must have the ability to understand technical documents such as technical specifications and functional requirements to produce test conditions and any associated queries.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Raise queries and collaborate to resolve queries with project configuration team members
• Test scenario and test data modelling, for the positive and negative scenarios
• Defect tracking and monitoring - for issues, fault investigations and triage of faults incorporating severity ratings
• Writing of test conditions/scenarios, test scripts with expected results and test data for testing projects
• Manual Test execution while accurately recording and storing test results
• Setting up the test environment in co-ordination with the technical services
• Implementing scheduled tests, execution and logging the tests and evaluating the results and documenting any deviations from expected results
• Fully understand how all aspects of their work integrates with the rest of the SDLC and STLC

Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills, behaviours and able to fulfil the role:

• Be prepared to undertake ISEB/ISTQB qualifications or have started to be qualified at foundation level
• Ability to absorb technical information when it is presented systematically and applies it effectively.
• Understands and uses appropriate standard test engineering methods, tools and applications.
• Aware of and continues to monitor the latest trend in testing tools available on the marketplace
• Technical enough to have the ability to create automated scripts or manual test scripts
• A good level of SQL scripting experience
