Job Description

Summary:

Prepares simple stains, solutions, and culture media, and performs waived and moderately complex laboratory tests according to CLIA certificate.  Maintains specimen records and performs venipuncture as requested by directing physician.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in West Cancer Centers Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

       High School graduate

Experience in basic Laboratory skills

One (1) year of  laboratory experience.


Certified Phlebotomist

 

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:

Completion of a Phlebotomy Program.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations as acquired through requisite education.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with associates, patients, and physicians.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Receives and accessions laboratory specimens
  • Maintains supply inventory and performs preventive maintenance on equipment.

Supervision Provided by this Position:

  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this job.

Physical Demands/Conditions:

  • Invasive and non-invasive patient contact throughout the shift.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids.
  • Must be able to react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 lbs. periodically throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat and kneel periodically throughout shift.
  • Must be able to reach, bend, and twist periodically throughout shift.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Use of hands for gripping and squeezing, as well as repetitive hand to wrist motion.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Normal eye-motor coordination, manual dexterity and visual perception.
