Lakers Reporter

Summary:
The Southern California News Group, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is seeking a Sports Reporter to cover the Los Angeles Lakers. This reporter will join our sports team, covering one of the most followed sports franchises in the world. You will need to develop strong professional relationships with players, coaches, team management and other sources. You must be able to find and break news, cover breaking news with urgency and develop compelling enterprise and analysis. This is a reporter who can take us to the next level of coverage and can add value to what Lakers fans who watch the games already know. You will also work with others on staff to produce compelling video and alternative story formats to engage readers.
What you will do:

• Cover the Los Angeles Lakers team, home and away
• Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Respond to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required
• Work closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive beat coverage
• Interact with viewers and users on social media
• Adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards at all times and abide by the newspaper's written ethics policy. Newsroom employees are on the front lines of protecting this newspaper's credibility

What you will bring:

• Must have experience covering a major pro or college sports teams, including some experience covering the NBA
• Some college or a degree in journalism, communication or related field is preferred
• Full set of digital skills - ability to break news, post quickly, engage on social media and tell stories in a variety of formats, including newsletters and occasionally on camera
• Ability to shoot and edit video and file quickly across platforms
• Comfort with using social media platforms to enhance reporting and promote stories.
• Travel to all Lakers road games is required

The hourly wage is $21.65 - $33.65. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition program, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
