It is anticipated that an incumbent in this role will work onsite for three (3) or more days a week and will have a dedicated workspace when working onsite. Work location is subject to change based on business needs.

Summary of the Job:

The Lead QA Automation Engineer role will be responsible to perform gap analysis of current state of automation frameworks, functional testing processes, testing infrastructure / environments, and help build a roadmap to advance automation practice. Will collaborate with multiple teams to develop test automation strategies to support various software components that include but not limited to UI front ends, UI back ends, REST/Soap APIs, Mobile apps, and backend microservices.

Preferred location is local in Omaha and will work in office 2-3 days a week.

About This Role:

  • Lead others to embrace and understand Agile QA methodologies, tools, and processes
  • Lead and evangelize 'Quality / Automation as a Team Mindset' across all agile teams
  • Regularly lead discussions on architectural improvements of test tooling, infrastructure, and align with Architects and Lead Developers to formulate solutions as needed
  • Research, identify, and implement new test automation technologies
  • Assist in troubleshooting automation test issues with Automation Engineers and report technical findings
  • Partner with teams and provide strategies for integration of test automation within CI/CD build tools
  • Leads and advises others on best practices for automated testing, as well as make recommendations to improve efficiency and performance
  • Ensure standardization of work, quality, and reviews are compliant with coding standards and regulations
  • Stay up to date on latest technology changes around Quality Engineering and Automation practices / tools at a team level and bring forward to teams as applicable
  • Lead automation initiatives across the organization and participate in the Quality Engineering CoE
  • Interact with other Automation Engineers to help implement optimized and re-usable functional test automation
  • Coach and mentor others in test automation and QA best practices
  • Review business challenges, conduct assessments of applications and/or processes, and make improvement recommendations
  • Plan, design, and manage test environments (Virtual Machines, Test Case Management servers, Performance servers; etc.)
  • Manage test software version control and lead in administering framework changes
  • Works independently, as well as leads and mentors' others through complex automation solutions

The Ideal Candidate for This Role:

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience and/or certifications
    • 7+ years experience using UI and/or API automation tools - examples: TestComplete, Selenium / Appium, Cypress, Postman, Swagger, GitLab, Postman
    • 7+ years hands-on experience programming/scripting with JavaScript and/or Java
      • Additional scripting experience a plus: C#, PowerShell, SQL, XML
    • Demonstrated skill in using / setting coding standards and being an active participant in code reviews
    • Experience setting up and maintaining automation frameworks
    • Experience with design, setup, and maintenance of automation test environments
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (creation and configuration)
    • Experience motivating and leading a team of Quality and Automation engineers
    • Exhibit strong collaboration skills across quality engineering practice
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Exhibit strong domain knowledge and product expertise for multiple applications
    • Able to perform analyses to solve complex problems and motivate peers to produce creative products and services
    • Able to negotiate difficult concepts and collaborate / lead on complex situations to formulate a different perspective for resolution
    • Exhibit strong expertise in identifying gaps in existing test environments, test frameworks, automated tests, and recommending feasible resolutions for implementation
    • Self-motivated team player with vision and initiative
    • Possesses high aptitude for problem solving and trouble-shooting both independently and as part of a collaborative team
    • Ability and skill to train other people / groups in procedural and technical topics
    • Experience installing and configuring different automation constructs
    • Knowledge of MS Office: Work, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access
