Lead Big Data Engineer (Team Lead) - Hybrid Denver, CO
Job Description
We are looking for a Lead Big Data Engineer - Team Lead who will work on building and managing Big Data Pipelines for us to manage inputs to accurately generate analytics at scale for our valued Customers. The primary focus will be on choosing optimal solutions to use for these purposes, then leading Data Engineering team members in maintaining, implementing, and monitoring them. You will also be responsible for integrating them with the products and architecture used across the company.
This role is ideal for someone with a passion for, as well as extensive experience in, data management, a strong background in computer science, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering leadership to devise and build the right solutions.
- Participate in Design discussions and brainstorming sessions to select, integrate, and maintain Big Data tools and frameworks required to solve Big Data problems.
- Solve problems in the complex energy domain using a broad perspective, collaborate with applicable knowledge sources and diverse perspectives, and share findings with your peers as appropriate.
- Design and implement systems to cleanse, process, and analyze large data sets using distributed processing tools like Airflow and Spark.
- Experience working with software and support teams in multiple regions, leading and collaborating asynchronously.
- Understand and critically review existing data pipelines, and come up with ideas in collaboration with Technical Leaders and Architects to improve upon current bottlenecks.
- Take initiative and show the drive to push our company's technical roadmap into the future.
- Mentor a team of data engineers located across the globe, providing guidance and technical expertise.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in developing highly scalable Big Data pipelines.
- Strong computer science background and knowledge of software and product development methodologies.
- In-depth understanding of the Big Data ecosystem including processing frameworks like Spark, Hadoop or Flink, and the file types they deal with.
- Experience with ETL and Data pipeline orchestration tools like Apache Airflow, dbt, etc.
- Excellent coding skills in Java or Scala, including the understanding to apply appropriate Design Patterns when required.
- Experience with Git and build tools like Gradle/Maven/SBT.
- Experience with data warehouse and BI solutions.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, profiling, and optimization.
Your Location
Because much of the team is based in Denver, CO, it is required that the selected candidate be located in the Denver area. The role will include occasional work at a GridX Industrious shared office or attendance at offsites and/or customer sites, as determined by your role's responsibilities and agreed to with your manager.

Compensation
Compensation is based on your specific location, and, for this position, may range from $180,000 to $190,000/year base salary + equity & benefits/perks in the Denver area. Please note this range is an estimate and actual pay may vary based on skill set, qualifications, experience and location.
