Lead Cloud Platform Engineer

The Role 

Schonfeld is seeking an exceptionally talented individual to join our Technology team as the Lead Cloud Platform Engineer. Reporting to the Head of Emerging Technology, the role will be responsible for the development and adoption of the platform powering Schonfeld’s developer community.  The team is focused on building and delivering a hybrid, Kubernetes-based platform as a service allowing technology and business users to easily build, deploy, and scale their workloads.

What you’ll do 

As Lead Cloud Platform Engineer, you will manage the Cloud Platform Engineering team and will set the strategic direction, architecture, and vision for our core environment. You will have architecture and engineering responsibilities for designing the platform provided to developers and portfolio managers to build solutions. You will evaluate both new Open Source and proprietary technologies to improve productivity, scalability, and reliability of systems and design solutions to ensure optimal performance.

Our goal is to deliver a self-serve platform that delights our users. You will leverage your software engineering skills to build tools that allow developers and portfolio managers to easily build workloads and leverage secure, production ready infrastructure without worrying about the underlying implementation. You will obsess over the experience of users of our platform, focusing on looking around corners to solve core challenges that accelerate the velocity of development. Lastly, the Lead Platform Engineer will scale the team globally and develop team members as the firm continues to grow.

The ideal candidate can lead a highly technical global team in a collaborative environment, be a self-starter with excellent communication skills, and have confidence to make critical decisions.

What you’ll bring

What you need:

• Experience leading a growing, highly technical team
• Extensive experience and expertise with AWS or GCP
• Extensive experience building and managing complex Kubernetes environments using managed cloud platforms (EKS), ideally in a multi-cluster, multi-tenant environment
• Knowledge of AWS environment design such as IAM policies, Cross-account permissions, S3 policies
• Experience with Terraform/IaC
• Ability to mentor and develop team members
• Strong sense of accountability and ownership, with a track record of delivering results
• Positive mindset and ability to work collaboratively with teams across technology and the business
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with an aptitude towards client service
• Coding Experience, ideally with Python or Golang

• Experience working in Financial Services
• System Design Experience
• Experience with on-prem Kubernetes deployments
• An understanding and experience with Agile methodologies, technical understanding of products, and familiarity with industry standards and best practices

Schonfeld Strategic Advisors is a multi-manager platform that invests its capital with Internal and Partner portfolio managers, primarily on an exclusive or semi-exclusive basis, across four trading strategies; quantitative, fundamental equity, tactical trading and discretionary macro & fixed income. We have created a unique structure to provide global portfolio managers with autonomy, flexibility and support to best enable them to maximize the value of their businesses.

Over the last 30 years, Schonfeld has successfully capitalized on inefficiencies and opportunities within the markets. We have developed and invested heavily in proprietary technology, infrastructure and risk analytics and continue to capitalize on new opportunities. In 2021 we launched our newest strategy, discretionary macro & fixed income as part of the continual growth of Schonfeld’s investible universe. Our portfolio exposure has expanded across the Americas, Europe and Asia as well as multiple asset classes and products.

The base pay for this role is expected to be between $235,000 and $275,000. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation such as a performance bonus and a competitive benefits package. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
