This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Communications Technical Resource to be based out of our Atlanta, GA program office. The Lead Communications Technical Resource will be responsible for managing and providing systems communications support and specialist technical knowledge to support the development of heavy rail systems' technical requirements in compliance with any applicable state and federal statutes, the Client's Design Criteria and Specifications, national and international standards and best industry practice. Heavy systems include Track, Automatic Train Control systems, Traction Electrification and Distribution Systems, Telecommunications and any other system or infrastructure required for the safe and efficient performance of the system.

Your Impact
  • Develop and oversee the design of communication systems, train control systems, radio system upgrades, and other systems and communication designs.
  • Prepare detailed engineering plans using the various software products.
  • Play an integral part in the development and review of plans, specifications and cost estimates for Rail Design projects.
  • Monitor and review the deliverables of the regional teams and contractors to ensure work is being performed in accordance with specifications, drawings and terms of contract.
  • Provide technical assistance to establish and develop scope of work, performance and technical requirements and design criteria for heavy rail systems.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Drive compliance and accountability-at-all-levels with applicable Federal, State, and Local engineering/design/construction laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead engineering discipline meetings for area of responsibility, providing updates and recommendations to staff that ensure all appropriate measures are takento foster innovation, development, and quality project delivery within the discipline.
  • Provide senior leadership for proposals and project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics for the engineering discipline.
  • Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents for complex projects and initiatives that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
  • Provide discipline leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 25+ years of relevant experience in design, system engineering, project management, testing, quality control and specification development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across rail & transit disciplines (Systems Engineering, Signals, Electrification Systems, Data Communications, and Project
  • Controls), Project Managers, Systems Engineers, Signals Engineers, Analysts, and Coordinators.
  • Advanced proficiency with transit and rail principles, practices, process, and design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices for a line(s) of business.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRail), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools used in the corporate environment.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in electrical/electronic, mechanical, computer, systems engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Membership of relevant professional body.
