At sweetgreen, the data engineering team represents the beginning of an insight in the company. Our data engineers take on the challenge of data collection and transformation from dozens of data sources, both internal and external to the company, and provide paths to access data for the purpose of insights and analysis. While there is a lot that goes into a well polished insight at sweetgreen, the data engineer is a first responder, a gatekeeper and an enabler for data driven business decisions. As such, data engineering plays a critical role for the company’s success as it continues to move forward under the guidance of its data.

Why we need you

The Lead Data Engineer will be leading the Data Engineering Team as part of the Data Platform Team, within the Engineering department. You will work closely with other engineering leads to develop, deliver, and maintain data driven products and backend analytics platforms for the discovery, interpretation, and communication of meaningful patterns in data. In addition, you will lead the Data Team in developing and maintaining the infrastructure to collect and transform raw data to feed to the downstream analytical and machine learning teams.

You will design reliable, scalable, near-real time applications that will enable all decisions, large or small, to be backed by accurate and meaningful data that moves sweetgreen in the right direction at greater velocity.

We are seeking candidates with experience in leading ,mentoring and growing junior and mid-level engineers while also contributing to the overall data infrastructure at sweetgreen.

• Build scalable , reliable and maintainable technology that enables sweetgreen to capture, process, store, and serve their data products in an easy way.

• Work closely on data platform to ensure we have quality monitoring , logging and promote data quality and governance standards. Define standards , best practices for infrastructure , etl pipelines and data models.

• Act as an owner and identify gaps in current processes and architecture and design and prioritize the development of next generation platform

• Work closely with BI and Data Science teams to build advanced analytics for our business teams and end users.

• Leading and mentoring data engineers and developing internal talent , conduct interviews and hire the best available talent.

• 8+ years of experience and solid fundamentals in data modeling, data architecture, and other areas directly relevant to data engineering.

• Technical leadership : Have lead successful teams in past, delivered high quality data products and capable of handling mentorship, cross functional project execution, prioritization and solid individual contributions.

• Experience build batch and streaming data pipelines using technologies like Spark, Hive , Kafka, Flink , Airflow.

• Proficiency with shell scripting and programming languages (e.g. Python) and Data Warehouse technologies like Redshift and Snowflake.

• Experience with implementing data governance and data quality standards and frameworks and Agile methodology. Familiar with provisioning resources in AWS using Terraform, Cloudformation.

• Experience consuming RESTful APIs and deploying website A/B testing or personalization
  Strong problem solving, communication, and time management.
