About the role 

• Lead and develop new product concepts and ideas from a blank sheet of paper.

• Produce working concepts for reviews with the use of handmade or prototype parts.

• Take an active role in defining design specifications for a given concept.

• Produce mechanical designs across a range of device types and technologies to deliver proof of concept performance

• Role-model presentation and communication best practice during project reviews.

• Define plans, monitor progress and report on technical risks.

• Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design quality.

• Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly 

• Analyse test results, summarise and communicate these with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

• Manage and lead others to achieve common goals a part of a team 

• Develop detailed specifications and design requirements for interdependent systems 

• Identify and design test requirements to replicate anticipated usage and optimise products to be robust and high performing.

• Manage the building of functional prototype products suitable for testing, review and demonstration 

• Perform and review analysis on test failures and develop efficient solutions 

About you 

• Extensive experience working in true innovation phases of product development projects

• A degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline or equivalent 

• 7 years of experience in a relevant role, working on complex and challenging concepts

• A creative and considered approach to problem solving, following clear design processes 

• Proven examples of developing a technically challenging design through leadership of others 

• Experience working in a 3D CAD design environment. 

• The skills to communicate your ideas to others within your team and across a business 

• A demonstrable desire to constantly improve yourself including evidence of self-development
