What You'll Be Doing in the role of Lead DEM

The Lead Development Engagement Manager is a newly created position, as Susan G. Komen's event fundraising programs evolve. The Lead will be a player-coach, well versed in all aspects of volunteer program operations, and will guide the team in establishing, evolving, communicating, and implementing best in class volunteer recruitment, stewardship, training, engagement and mobilization practices. The Lead will collaborate with event program leaders to determine the most efficient and effective ways to engage and leverage volunteers to plan and bring our events to life and help create the plan to deliver a constituent-centric volunteer experience, leading to the construction of a well-organized, well-trained, well-engaged corps of volunteers for our community-based event fundraising programs. The Lead will guide the rollout of volunteer program standards and ensure consistent implementation, training, and execution.

The Lead will continue to serve in the critical role supporting regional market engagement and outreach strategies to acquire, recruit and retain fundraisers, volunteers, and participants while working closely with market leaders and cross-functional teams. The Lead will continue to be responsible for implementing event and campaign marketing toolkits, assets, and monthly communications allocations to increase local engagement as well as developing an annual communication plan based on the markets fundraising calendar, signature event touchpoint plan(s) and local engagement needs to maximize the use of e-communications, social media, and social groups. The Lead will continue to communicate volunteer opportunities in each market to recruit and activate volunteers for signature fundraising events.

What You Will Bring to the Table

The primary objectives of the Lead Development Engagement Manager are to ensure that Susan G. Komen's operational plans for volunteer engagement are clearly established and implemented, and to help build the resources, systems, processes, and tools to ensure effective volunteer recruitment, training, and meaningful engagement with our organization. The Lead will be a member of the Event Planning and Experience team, will manage the other Development Engagement Managers, and will work in tandem with the Director, Event Planning & Experience to articulate and meet the volunteer needs. They will also work very closely with our internal team members on the market-based Community Development teams, the Marketing team, the Mission team and the Operations team. Working cross-functionally, the Lead will guide the team of Development Engagement Managers to:

Establish the Volunteer needs, roles and responsibilities, and operating structures for each event fundraising program.

Set recruitment, stewardship and engagement best practices, achieving high fulfillment for program needs and creating positive and meaningful experiences for volunteers and our internal Komen teams.

Set goals for volunteer program development, volunteer engagement and satisfaction. As a player-coach, lead the team in the successful execution of these goals.

Identify and proactively engage with organizations and companies with whom Komen should be partnering for regional or national volunteer engagement partnerships.

Work closely with the Workplace Fundraising and Engagement team to surface and maximize opportunities for corporate team-based volunteerism. Advise on processes and systems needed to unlock corporate donations associated with employee volunteer hours.

Validate volunteer experience standards, guidelines and specifications for high priority programs and events.

Help create programs, processes, relationships, and resources that enable the full life cycle of volunteerism: recruitment, training, cultivation, retention and recognition.

Roll-out tools and resources to support effective program function and volunteer management, including but not limited to statements of purpose, job descriptions, calendars of work, job aids, committee organizing tools, planning agendas, training decks.

Roll-out National recruitment and engagement strategies, training and onboarding curricula and a nationwide volunteer recognition program to acknowledge and appreciate those who give us the gift of their time.

In collaboration with the Race for the Cure and MORE THAN PINK Walk team, refine and roll-out support for Operational Planning Committees and event-day volunteer experiences to build capacity within these programs, reduce event expenses and enable community teams to focus on fundraising.

Promote and demonstrate appropriate respect for equity, diversity and inclusion and cultural competencies within volunteer experiences, programs and all contacts.

Create and execute market communication calendar for each market in the region that aligns with development plan and fundraising calendar fully utilizing market e-communication and social media allocations, market webpages on Komen.org and manage event Facebook groups to recruit, retain and acquire participants, volunteers, and fundraisers.

Support execution of local events and campaigns in collaboration with local market staff, volunteers and sponsors utilizing marketing resources provided by the marketing department including marketing and social toolkits.

Recruit, engage and train market volunteers for signature fundraising events.

Recruit, engage and train local volunteers and volunteer influencers to create an online community through market social groups.

Create communications plan to support touchpoint plans for the markets' signature events including texts to HVPs, scripts for robo calls, draft email communication for fundraising staff to send to motivate participants and HVPs.

Manage all event webpages and market webpages working collaboratively to provide refreshed content reflecting the markets volunteer and development programs.

Input quarterly tracking of any contests, promotions, sweepstakes, games of chance, etc. in department's UBIT tracker and maintain detailed records in a centralized folder.

Work collaboratively with RVP and other key market staff to implement national corporate engagement sellable assets and develop integrated approaches to local market sponsorships including the development of case studies on market partnership and create ROI decks following signature events and annually to partners.

Actively identify and manage local communications activation opportunities and deliverables for sponsors.

Serve as the regional lead to work collaboratively with Marketing and Communication on all market marketing deliverables such as event invitations, press releases, scripts, graphic design projects, etc.

Build a recruitment strategy that considers various demographics, populations, types of volunteer opportunities and methods of outreach. Identify local networks and contacts for community volunteer outreach and build relationships and connections within the network.

Deploy volunteer engagement experience messaging. Share messaging and volunteer needs within the network associated with a call to action.

Act as first point of contact with community members who are responding to calls to action and are ready to engage in our cause helping to find the best fit for those willing to volunteer their time (leadership, ongoing, day of, skillset/interest). Then transition the volunteer relationship to the appropriate community Volunteer Chair or Community Development team member.

Conduct organization's orientation and training to set volunteers up for success.

Cultivate and steward volunteers through a stewardship strategy plan and program by recognizing, highlighting and acknowledging the contributions of your volunteers.

Evaluate and seek feedback on the volunteer experience.

Contribute to the update and enhancement of the volunteer engagement experience for the organization.

Since You Are Already A Komen DEM, We Already Know You Will Also Have

3-5 years of experience in nonprofit volunteer engagement roles with demonstration of increasing scope and responsibility.

At least 2 years leading or managing others who are engaging with volunteers.

A Bachelor's degree is preferred, but successful track record with volunteer strategy and operational leadership is more important.

A proven track record of designing and implementing best-in-class volunteer program strategies and tactics, and successfully recruiting, training, and deploying a wide range of volunteers across a range of programs.

Strong management and leadership experience, with a willingness to roll up their sleeves and engage in the work.

Direct experience supporting and empowering volunteers throughout multiple opportunities of engagement, across multiple aspects of a program and across single day, ongoing, committee, chair and member opportunities.

Personal volunteer service experiences spanning multiple types of engagement.

A working knowledge of the time for and function of collaboration, strong listening skills, the knack for asking the right questions, extracting key themes and the credibility needed to quickly move stakeholders to sound recommendations, credible decisions and solid plans.

The ability to connect the dots to establish and share program standards and best practices, and to launch and evolve systems.

Professional, mature communication style and the ability to lead through influence.

Strong planning, organizational and follow-up skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively with diverse individuals, groups and communities.

Ability to respond flexibly and engage in creative problem-solving.

Strong conflict management and negotiation skills.

Potentially supervises interns, vendors, consultants, volunteers, and DEMs, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, and ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, training and developing, and terminating decisions. Creates the experiences and beliefs for team members to deliver the desired results.

Travel requirements outside of the office up to 25%.
