Lead DevOps Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer to join our global site reliability team based in Eagan, Minnesota. This position is part of a global technology group that operates enterprise application systems serving Thomson Reuters products in the Legal Practice & Productivity segment.
This team manages reliability engineering, build and deployment processes, ongoing change planning and implementation, incident detection and resolution, and compliance for a portfolio of products and infrastructure built on a variety of technologies including Java, Linux, Microsoft, relational databases, message queuing, AWS cloud services, and more.
About the Role
As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you will:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of engineers who support the world's leading provider of online legal information and an industry leading online marketing solution hosted on both an on-premise datacenter and in the cloud (AWS, GCP).
- Design, implement, and maintain automated deployment solutions using CI/CD best practices and technologies (GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CloudFormation) to deliver standardized, agile, and secure code to Production supporting $250M in revenue generated annually.
- Build reliable and actionable application and infrastructure monitoring and alerting (Datadog) utilizing Infrastructure as Code best practices (Terraform) minimizing development time and reducing redundancy allowing for faster creation of more complex solutions.
- Partner with engineering teams to architect, operationalize, and build or migrate applications creating highly available, secure, scalable, modern services built AWS Cloud natively or on AWS Managed Services.
- Participate in the team shift/on-call rotation, which supports our maintenance, scheduled work, application support, and release/deployment requirements.
- Explore new technologies and services keeping our tooling and processes current to enhance the reliability and supportability of our evolving platform.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Lead DevOps Engineer if you have experience with and are able to:
- Quickly and effectively make data driven decisions, with great problem solving and analytical skills.
- Effectively articulate complex problems, concepts, and solutions to varied audiences.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in productivity, service quality, monitoring, and tooling.
- Model and mentor a continuous learning and growth mindset.
- Respond timely to Production incidents coordinating efforts to investigate, mitigate, and resolve with availability for on-call coverage.
- Balance delivery speed and quality with team learning and service-level objectives.
Minimum qualifications
- Experience of Operations, DevOps/Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Development related experience with online applications.
- Expert knowledge in multiple DevOps/SRE related tools and services (Jenkins, GitHub, GitHub Actions, JFrog/Artifactory, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, CloudFormation, Docker)
- Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting CI/CD release pipelines and deployment processes (GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CloudFormation).
- Expert knowledge and experience with log analysis and monitoring tools (Datadog, CloudWatch).
- Experience working with and building AWS technologies (ECS, EC2, Lambda, ELB, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, KMS, VPC, RDS).
Preferred qualifications
- Working knowledge of one or more programming/scripting languages (Python, Java, Javascript/Node.js, PHP, Bash)
- Working knowledge of Database technologies (Postgres, RDS, Oracle, MySQL, SQL).
- Demonstrated success leading a team in cloud migration, modernization, or other large-scale projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Linux/Unix administration experience.
- Cloudflare experience is a bonus!
