Summary
This position is located at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and is directly supervised by the Radiology Section Chief and Chief Technologist. This position functions as a lead technologist for a group of DRTs. The technologist performs a full range of general radiologic treatment procedures and possesses broad knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area. The technologist is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.
- Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).]
Grade Determinations:
GS -11: Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS - 10) directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies needed to provide services as a supervisory radiologic technologist. Mammographers must be able to employ specialized mammographic image techniques such as magnification views and implant views of the breast. The mammographer is required to be completely familiar with, and adhere to, all U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines regulating the practice of mammography, radiation safety, and quality assurance requirements.
Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: The incumbent functions as a lead technologist
for a group of DRTs at the GS-10 level and below. The technologist performs a full range of general
radiologic treatment procedures and possesses broad knowledge of the different modalities within
the diagnostic radiologic area. The technologist is accountable to the next higher-level supervisor.
The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs: and demonstrate the potential to
acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
i. *Skill in directing on-the-job training for employees.
ii. *Ability to evaluate work performance of lower level employees and recommend performance ratings.
iii. *Skill in technical planning and oversight to set and adjust work priorities, and [ensure] that work
requirements are met based on employee capabilities.
iv. Ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including knowledge of growth and development.
v. *Knowledge of medical center, VHA, and government-wide human resources management
regulations, policies, and procedures.

Physical Requirements: This position requires heavy lifting , 45 pounds and over, prolonged standing, repeated bending, transferring. stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, or pulling with and without assistance from another patient care provider or significant other. Reaching above the shoulder; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required). Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; distinguish basic colors; good hearing (aid permitted); good vision; speed in working and emotional stability. Must have the ability to Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Lead Apron) for periods of time. A health examination must be successfully complete prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Employee Health Clinic policy.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
