Lead EHS Specialist
Job Description
Summary:
- Implements EHS, environment-only, or health and safety-only policies and programs. Advises organization on regulatory changes and investigates fewer major incidents and ensures risks are addressed. Oversees EHS reporting and documentation according to internal and external standards. Supervises and participates in, and may develop the training for employees on HS&E policies, procedures, and regulations.
Primary Duties:
- Coordinates the facility plant(s) in various health and safety practices and programs designed to safeguard all employees in a working environment that is conducive to their well-being.
- Recommends and spearheads specific actions to assure that the plant/location complies with all applicable laws related to the health and safety of employees
- Administers the location's risk management program designed to minimize physical and financial exposure resulting from potential, alleged, or actual on-the-job injuries.
- Apprises location leadership and HR of all safety-related problems
- Conducts or assists in 5S and safety inspections. Coordinates corrective action programs relative to safety for the purpose of orienting new employees and updating existing employees.
- Assists in accident investigation, assures that proper reports are completed and recommends corrective action.
- Schedules and facilitates necessary safety and environmental audits. Records any required corrective actions and ensures actions are implemented to provide resolution to issues/concerns that are identified.
- Knowledgeable on the latest safety procedures and equipment by maintaining membership in an appropriate organization(s), attendance at pertinent seminars, and reading professional journals.
- Prepares/maintains a safety policy and procedure manual.
- Coordinates wellness programs.
- Provides information for monthly measurables.
- Administers drug testing, if applicable.
- Environmental management responsibilities: Will follow and promote environmental management system compliance and commitment to resource conservation.
Worker's Compensation Responsibilities (if applicable):
- Communicates with and assists the plant's Workers' Compensation serving agent in the investigation and administration of workers' compensation claims.
- Maintains liaison with company-retained physician, schedules physical examinations, and coordinates medical report for work-related illnesses or injuries.
- Coordinates the processing and payment of all indemnity lost -time claims under workers' compensation.
- Maintains contact with all employees absent from work with job-related or non-job-related conditions.
- Identifies and offers modified, alternate, or rehab duty as appropriate.
- Coordinates the Work Conditioning program.
- Maintains, reports, and analyzes information relative to workers' compensation costs to minimize costs and properly administer the plan's Penalty and Refund Adjustment Program where applicable.
- Performs a review with the Plant Controller of the plant workers' compensation loss reports.
- Reviews discrepancies with the plant's workers' compensation claims administrator.
Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in EHS
- 3 years of experience in EHS internal and external documentation and reporting
- 1-3 years of Manufacturing experience
- Conducts 5S and safety inspections
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills- ask a questions
- Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
- Hands-on, this job is on the shop floor interacting with employees
- Experience in Accident investigations and reporting
