Lead Engineer - Observability
Job Description
An inclusive work environment is an empowering one. At Cutover, we lead with empathy and enable others to succeed through curiosity, kindness, and self-expression.
Location: New York
- You can choose how often you’ll work from home vs the office - whether you’re fully remote or hybrid.
- This role is flexible in location, but we would like you to be able to commute to our NYC office on occasion.
- We are viewing this as a remote opportunity, with occasional travel to our New York hubs.
Cutover has built the world’s first enterprise-wide work orchestration and observability platform that enables seamless human and machine collaboration. Last year, we announced a $35 million Series B financing round led by Eldridge (alongside existing investors Index Ventures, Sussex Place Ventures, and Contour Ventures) and we’re thrilled to be embarking on our next exciting chapters of growth.
What tech stack do we have here at Cutover?
Our Cutover platform consists of a responsive AngularJS (and increasingly JS with ReactJS View) frontend talking to a Ruby on Rails API, hosted on AWS. Our automated testing is done using Jasmine and Jest (and RSpec for the Backend), with Protractor being used for end-to-end testing.
What will you be doing?
- You’ll be hands-on and in the code. We’re still a small team, so all of our leadership roles involve rolling up the sleeves and getting stuck in.Â
When your team has grown you’ll be line managing and mentoring a team of around 4-5 people.. You’ll take the lead in their career planning, their goal setting, and managing their performance: you’ll be their primary guide through the sometimes turbulent waters of scale-up company life. - You’ll hold a key role on our Engineering Leadership Team, working closely with our Head of Engineering, CTO, and CPO on our technology strategy, resource allocation, and hiring plans. You’ll be a trusted senior voice in the business and we’ll regularly look to you for advice on strategic and tactical matters.
- You’ll collaborate with our broader leadership team and play a key role in creating an engineering community, focused on evangelising the interesting work we’re doing as a team, building relationships with local engineering networks, and ensuring we have a sustainable pipeline of talent in our orbit to help us scale our team with as little friction as possible.
What we’d like you to bring to the table…
- You're excited about software engineering with some experience across the full stack, ideally with some exposure to both Ruby on Rails and Javascript/Typescript which are our core technologies.
- You’ve got strong Computer Science fundamentals, and the proven ability to leverage those fundamentals to produce highly maintainable, test-driven code and architecture.
- You have an interest in (and perhaps even expertise) in the world of Cloud Engineering; bonus points if you can bring some strong experience with AWS to the table.
- You’re excited about bringing extra layers of shine and polish to products; you’re rigorous in the way you test features and you’re committed to making the product you’re building the best it can possibly be (you’ll be someone who aims to build strong relationships with Test Engineers from day one).
- You’re both a mentor and a lifelong-learner at heart: you always have time to chat things through with junior engineers, you want to throw ideas around with your team-mates, and you’re always keen to hear new opinions and up-skill in new technologies.
- You have a strong track record in the field of Leadership; you’re a highly capable people-manager, with proven experience mentoring, supporting and growing individuals in your reporting line. You understand what it takes to build a culture of learning, which is both inclusive and motivating. Â
- You have a desire to be more “commercial” than the average SaaS company engineer: we want our engineers to get involved with client-facing work and problem solving on occasion (it makes sense to know how people are using the thing we’ve built, right?)Â
The good stuff...
We understand the importance of offering transparent compensation ranges for our roles to ensure fair pay equity. However, compensation planning in scale-ups is not the exact science as it is in large corporations - there may be some deviation from the numbers posted [upwards or downwards]. While we don’t have it perfect just yet, we still feel that showcasing a loose range is more progressive than posting no range at all.
- Salary: $150k - $175k per annum.
- We're excited to offer Share Options as part of our compensation package.
- 20 days of PTO per year + public holidays, and we want you to take all of them!
- 3 volunteer days to use for any charitable/voluntary cause you would like.
- A top-tier private health insurance package.
- A 401k contribution plan
- Work from home stipends
- A personal learning and development budget through Learnerbly. You’ll be supported in your quest for knowledge, whatever that looks like to you.
- If you’re thinking of starting or growing your family, then you’ll be in great company - more than half of our team are parents and we’ve built a globally consistent parental leave approach that we’re proud of.
- Employee Referral Scheme.
- Safeguarding the mental health of our teams is paramount for us. If you’d like to, then you’ll be able to avail yourself of multiple Cutover mental health initiatives, from fully subsidized therapy sessions to subscriptions to leading wellbeing platforms.
- All the company swag you could ever need.Â
Diversity Statement - Empowering Our Teams
We encourage our team to bring their authentic selves to work, which we have found has strengthened workplace relationships and fostered a genuine sense of community - especially during the past two years of the pandemic.Â
If you are excited by this role, we invite you to apply! Even if your profile doesn’t check all the boxes, please don't simply scroll past! We recognize that talent lies everywhere and that some demographic groups are more likely to apply for a "stretch role" than others. We are always open to different perspectives and professional backgrounds to keep Cutover's culture evolving and to ensure that we never stop learning.Â
Cutover is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Maintaining an equitable hiring process is imperative to our mission. All applicants are considered without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, mental or physical disability, marital status, protected veteran or parental status.
