That’s No Moon is an independent AAA game development studio established in 2021 by veterans of some of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed creative teams in the world, including Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward, Santa Monica Studio, Bungie, PlayStation, and more. A remote-friendly studio with a central office and performance capture stage located in Los Angeles, That’s No Moon is creating the next generation of narrative-driven, genre-defining experiences built upon a culture of creativity, collaboration, responsible production practices, and individual empowerment. We are assembling a diverse team of passionate developers of a wide range of experience levels and backgrounds to help shape the future of our studio and projects.

We are seeking a Lead Environment Concept Artist with a passion for bringing life to grounded worlds that creates immersive game experience and tells evocative stories. Working in a collaborative team with story, art direction and gameplay you will have the chance to define a new benchmark for visual excellence in games. Working with the Studio Art Director and your team you will be responsible for researching and crafting a wide range of visual development from reference and mood boards to sketches and final concept art. With your help we will push the industry to new heights of realism, beauty, gameplay, and storytelling! 

 

 Responsibilities:  

  • Work with the Studio Art Director and Narrative Team to research, collect, and organize reference and inspirational material.  
  • Inspire the team with sketches, color roughs, mood paintings and final concepts to drive the project’s artistic vision. 
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders in across all teams to ensure visual consistency 
  • Participate in creative kickoffs for various stages of development. 
  • Provide feedback to your team and educate team members on new techniques and information. 
  • Create paint-overs to help ensure architecture, nature color, lighting, and design constancy from inspiration to final implementation. 
  • Ensure deliverables are completed to the target quality in a timely manner. 

 

Requirements & Skills:  

  • 5+ years of professional games or film concept design.  
  • Shipped at least 1 AAA game as a senior or lead artist.  
  • Outstanding portfolio demonstrating the ability to create stunning and visceral worlds using a wide variety of techniques.  
  • Strong drawing and painting fundamentals.  
  • Outstanding grasp of traditional art theory including composition, lighting, color, value, and shape language.  
  • Innate ability to observe, research, and analyze subject matters and apply those principles to your designs. 
  • Understanding of contemporary and historical architecture. 
  • Strong grasp on industrial and architectural design with a passion for making grounded designs that would function in the real world. 
  • Professional experience with Photoshop and 3D tools for sketching, painting, photo bashing, lighting, layout and designing. 
  • (Bonus) Education in art, architecture, industrial design, or related fields.  
  • (Bonus) Experience with 3D programs such as Maya, ZBrush, Blender, Substance Painter etc.  
  • (Bonus) Knowledge, experience, or interest in using photos, scans and 3D assets in the creation of concept art. 
  • (Bonus) Experience working with game engines to manipulate layout, lighting, render passes and LUTS.
