Lead Financial Analyst
ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
The incumbent will be part of the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team and will assist the FP&A Manager in carrying out the broader Finance department mission.
The Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) function refers to the corporate finance and planning role. This includes all aspects associated with planning, forecasting, analysis and reporting to aid senior management with decision-making. The FP&A team leads the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), or budget, process and prepares profitability analysis for business units, delivery channels, products and members/households. The team also prepares ad-hoc analysis for new business initiatives, products and expansion. These duties require building and maintaining various models using corporate financial management programs such as IBM TM1 and business intelligence/database tools. The FP&A team will work closely with the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team, Advanced Analytics team, Accounting and other business units. The Lead Financial Analyst will support the FP&A function, serving as the lead for profitability analysis at the direction of the FP&A Manager and help mentor others
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Modeling:
- Take the lead role in development and analysis of profitability models for business units, delivery channels, products and members/households including activity-based costing, funds transfer pricing (FTP), transaction-driven cost allocations and sensitivity analysis, viewed through the lens of all-in, marginal, historical and pro-forma perspectives
- Take the lead role in the AOP, or budget, process to include implementation of driver-based models to improve the accuracy and speed of forecasts
- Interact with key stakeholders and business units to develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to help enhance their budgeting process
- Identify key drivers of risk and opportunity and develop tools and reporting to track the performance of new business initiatives
- Translate business performance data into insightful analysis, recommendations, and presentations for senior leadership
- Be the primary department contact for business case analysis/validation and ad-hoc analysis/projects to support strategic decisions to include design, development, testing, implementation and documentation
- Develop and implement corporate scorecards for various business units to include reporting and dashboards
- Develop and maintain a rolling corporate forecast for non-interest income and non-interest expense to be included in the ALM model
- Analyze branch expansion models to assist management in strategic initiatives
- Assist in the monthly Allowance for Loan Losses analysis and work with the FRM team to develop a new Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) model in accordance with State and NCUA regulations
- Develop deposit pricing models and recommendations for presentation to the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO) to include cost analysis and marginal costs
- Automate data gathering, reports and presentations to include financial statements, variance reporting, ratios, slides and other analysis
- Analyze the monthly Return on Assets decomposition model and explain variances
- Keep informed of changes in regulations with the State of Florida and NCUA and adjust reporting in all FP&A areas to maintain compliance
- Create, maintain and enhance various models to assist the FRM team with liquidity reporting and asset-liability management
- Extract data from business intelligence databases or other sources using data mining tools such as SQL, VBA, Crystal Reports, Monarch or other methods
Financial Decision Support & Reporting:
- Ability to translate business data into digestible and actionable information
- Ability to guide business units to help them achieve strategic goals
- Mentor other analysts on initiatives and provide leadership and guidance on key projects
- Promote continual process improvements and automation
- Take initiative in supporting analysis and models for both the FP&A and FRM functions
- Excellent skills in ensuring reporting is complete, accurate and balances to the overall financial reports
- Develops clear and concise written analysis of modeling results for presentation to business units, ALCO, senior management and the Board of Directors
- Document and maintain all work processes and models used for FP&A functions
- Effectively support the Finance team with requirements for the annual regulatory examination by the State of Florida and NCUA
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required:
- Avid and positive team player
- Strong analytical capabilities with knowledge of accounting/financial reporting and financial modeling
- Strong leadership skill and the ability to coach and mentor other analysts
- Strong communication skills including presentation, interpersonal and writing skills
- Ability to work independently, work on multiple projects simultaneously and is a self-starter
- Exhibits flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments
- Advanced knowledge of profitability in conjunction with Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP), with strong knowledge of profitability/corporate performance management (CPM) software such as Workday TM1, SAS or others.
- Working knowledge of data analysis and/or programming languages such as SQL, Python or others
- Ability to understand regulatory compliance
- Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
EDUCATION
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related area. Other education or experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of functional experience with profitability, budgeting and data analysis activities
- 5+ years of experience in Financial Analytics/Modeling/Valuation using Workday, IBM PA/TM1, ZM, SAS or other profitability, budgeting or forecasting systems/models
- 4+ years of experience in quantitative modeling and/or data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, R or SPSS.6-10 years of related experience
Highly Preferred:
- Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or Master's Degree in a Quantitative or finance discipline or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or working toward one of these
- Strong knowledge of credit union/bank products and services
- High Proficiency in data analytics
