Accounting Systems and Reporting Lead
Department Support, Analysis and Solution Definition
- Ensure the integrity of the systems' accounting functions and data affecting financial reporting.
- Works to understand and resolve business issues and challenges that impact financial reporting, by evaluating information harvested through meetings and discussions, task and data analysis, and business process understanding.
- Creates and manages custom reporting and visualization using data analytics and data visualization tools to support all teams within the department. Assists with enhancement and troubleshooting of current reports and queries.
- Builds relationships to effectively partner with other departments in the development and implementation of system projects.
- Demonstrate significant and increasing knowledge about the automotive finance business and related systems.
- Represent the Accounting department when meeting with other business areas or IT and enforce a strong and tight control environment as system projects are implemented or processes are changed.
- Pushes creative thinking beyond the boundaries of existing practices and mindsets to identify solutions to meet the needs of the department efficiently and effectively.
- Responsible for understanding all financial system applications, workflows, system capabilities, parameters, rules, etc.
- Periodically review processes and procedures to find efficiencies that can be implemented by utilizing systems in the most efficient manner.
- Create opportunities to automate financial processes where possible.
- Address all financial reporting systems issues as it relates to systems reconciliations, roll forwards and other ad hoc analysis/reporting using data analytics tools.
- Helps set direction and strategy for system replacement and enhancements.
Project Execution
- Actively participate in systems projects that have an impact to financial accounting.
- Represent the department as a subject matter expert for all projects, system changes and initiatives that have an accounting impact and maintain the related data governance.
- Participate in developing test plans and test cases for system projects, enhancements, and upgrades, ensuring that the accounting group's interests and concerns are properly addressed.
- Work closely with system vendors throughout projects to ensure the proper training is received, appropriate changes are made, and perform the necessary documentation of the information gathered.
- Perform and supervise related systems integration and user acceptance testing with the appropriate level of detail, ensuring that system changes are functioning properly in the test environment before being formally implemented in the live system.
- Perform data profiling, data mining and data compilation using data analytics tools to automate testing initiatives.
- Engage with business stakeholders and end-users to ensure they receive proper training of newly implemented systems.
- Research issues identified on the projects using data analytics tools to resolve system issues as well as internal process issues impacting the system.
- Works with application developers on behalf of end users to ensure business requirements are understood and met.
Communication and Leadership
- Acts as an interface between technology teams, support teams, and the Accounting and Finance Department on systems projects and initiatives.
- Communicates, applies, and is an advocate for project standards.
- Able to balance a complex working environment and manage competing priorities effectively based on business needs.
- Stays current on the data, reporting, and systems used or that can be utilized by Accounting and Finance Department to be able to advocate for the needs of business users.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, is required
- 4-6 years of experience in Accounting or Finance, with an emphasis on analytics
- MBA a plus
- Demonstrated high proficiency with Microsoft Office
- High degree of proficiency in Visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI
- SAS certified a plus
- Experience with other data analytic tools preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience required.
- Strong problem-solving skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Strong accounting and data analytics background.
- Proven effective verbal & written communication/follow-up skills
- Must be able to understand transactional and operational accounting
- Possess solid presentation skills and the ability to lead and manage meetings and working sessions comprised of stakeholders with competing interests
- Attention to detail and self-starter
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
