Lead Firmware Engineer

• Lead the embedded firmware development of a low-power cellular-connected IoT wearable in C
• Develop proof-of-concept prototypes using development kits and other prototyping tools
• Work closely with electrical engineering to bring our design through certification, manufacturing, and to our customers
• Develop overall software architecture as well as write, test and QA production code
• Develop reliable, fail-safe over-the-air firmware update procedure
• Root cause and fix bugs that cross the hardware/firmware boundary using software tools and lab equipment
• Work with OEM (domestic or overseas) to provide software support during engineering testing and manufacturing
• Support the founding team across all aspects of early-stage development -- after all, this is a startup!

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience designing embedded software for consumer electronics
• Fluent in C/C++, including test and debug
• Deep experience developing firmware for memory-constrained microcontrollers such as ARM Cortex-M series
• Experience with an RTOS and writing device drivers/device trees (exposure to Zephyr or Embedded Linux is a plus)
• Experience and comfort managing teams or contractors. Ability to articulate, explain, and defend (when necessary) engineering decisions
• Experience with BLE and Wi-Fi protocols
• Familiarity with a scripting language (Python, NodeJS, etc.) to tackle automation and testing
• Ability to thrive under tight deadlines with shifting priorities. Startup experience is a plus
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

• Cellular LTE experience
• Experience with low-power connected devices
• Able to apply peripheral skill sets such as hardware debugging or cloud backend development to chase the problems where they bring you
• Interested in bringing higher level software best practices such as continuous integration and automated testing (hardware-in-the-loop) into the firmware world
