Lead Front End Engineer

VuMedi is building the world’s leading healthcare video education network, used by over 550,000 specialized providers worldwide. Our platform provides a library of trusted, high-quality educational videos, helping clinicians make optimal patient care decisions with our comprehensive and easily discoverable system. Our network pulls together critical content from world-renowned key opinion leaders, hospitals, and societies.

As a front-end development lead, you’ll be responsible for evolving our user experience and improving VuMedi’s ability to match content to medical professionals worldwide. We’re searching for a candidate with a unique background and set of skills, someone who can build and shape VuMedi’s user experience from the ground up, make decisions about the future of our front-end architecture and frameworks, and set the stage for scaling our team and platform. The initial focus of this role will be on execution—laying a strong technical foundation, establishing patterns, and rolling out a new set of high-priority features. You will work closely with our back-end engineers, data scientists, and UX/UI designers to improve the end-user’s video viewing experience and facilitate better discovery and search of our video content. You’ll ensure the site’s load times and performance standards are set and maintained. 

Building a great product is a highly collaborative effort, so it’s important you are a team player with strong communication skills. Interest in leadership or past leadership experience is plus but not required. You’ll receive strong partnership from VuMedi’s core of tenured engineers and engineering management and product teams.

• Ability to execute complex UI/UX features end to end
• Make recommendations and implement new front-end frameworks, making development more efficient and ultimately improving the end-user experience
• Work directly with product stakeholders to advance the planning and execution of new product features
• Establish a process for monitoring key front-end performance and user experience metrics
• Develop a highly collaborative and efficient process working with UX/UI designers and researchers
• Navigate through relevant aspects of the backend codebase and advocate for a services-driven architecture
• Understand and contribute to the company’s strategy and product development processes
• Understand and contribute to our analytics collection system so our product team has the information it needs to serve our customers better
• Understand fundamentals of the business and core user personas. 

• Experience developing in a modern frontend framework and language such as React, Redux, Graphql, Typescript.
• Experience and track record of leading technical initiatives and working cross-functionally 
• Past experience proposing, implementing, and executing on initial front-end framework architecture into a project, including repository, initial models, and development processes.
• Comfort navigating through the codebase of a web development framework like Django/Rails (Django Preferred).
• Experience collaborating with backend engineers to develop requirements for new APIs to support emerging front-end features
• Comfort collaborating with a distributed team
• Experience with design systems and component libraries 
• Experience tuning front-end performance fundamentals such as latency, caching, load times, etc
• Strong understanding of web vitals such as largest contentful paint, cumulative layout shift etc, and the tooling in which to monitor. 
• Collaborated with a variety of business stakeholders in a startup environment
