We are on the lookout for an experienced Lead Game Designer to join a highly motivated team.

As part of the job, you will lead a team of designers, collaborate closely with other disciplines, and be responsible for driving the development of gameplay mechanics, level design, and player progression. Your visionary approach and ability to inspire your team will be crucial in creating games that captivate and engage players worldwide.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Lead Game Designer at Stormind Games, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Lead and mentor a team of game designers, providing guidance, feedback, and support throughout the development cycle.
  • Define and communicate the overall game design vision, mechanics, and player experience to the team and ensure alignment with the project's creative goals.
  • Collaborate with other Leads, artists, programmers, writers, and other stakeholders to translate high-level concepts into detailed gameplay systems and mechanics.
  • Design and iterate on gameplay mechanics, controls, and player interactions to create intuitive, rewarding, and enjoyable experiences.
  • Oversee level design, ensuring that levels are well-structured, well-paced, balanced, and aligned with the game's narrative and mechanics.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, including gameplay mechanics, level layouts, and progression systems, to ensure a clear and shared understanding across the team.
  • Conduct playtests and gather feedback to identify areas for improvement and iterate on designs to achieve optimal player engagement.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and player preferences to innovate and bring fresh ideas to the game design process.

Requirements and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven track record as a lead game designer, with a portfolio showcasing your contributions to successful game projects.
  • Deep understanding of game design principles, mechanics, and player psychology, with the ability to create experiences that are both fun and challenging.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team of designers towards a shared vision.
  • Proficiency in using game design tools and software, such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or proprietary engines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and address design challenges effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and adapt to changing project needs.
  • Passion for video games and a keen awareness of industry trends and emerging gameplay innovations.
