That’s No Moon is an independent AAA game development studio established in 2021 by veterans of some of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed creative teams in the world, including Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward, Santa Monica Studio, Bungie, PlayStation, and more. A remote-friendly studio with a central office and performance capture stage located in Los Angeles, That’s No Moon is creating the next generation of narrative-driven, genre-defining experiences built upon a culture of creativity, collaboration, responsible production practices, and individual empowerment. We are assembling a diverse team of passionate developers of a wide range of experience levels and backgrounds to help shape the future of our studio and projects.

We are looking for a Lead Gameplay Engineer who is excited to explore new game mechanics for our forthcoming AAA title. This role will work side-by-side with designers and provide creative input to craft fun gameplay experiences. In this role, you will architect, build and maintain a variety of gameplay systems to support unique, outstanding gameplay. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Provide production team with guidance for scheduling, while identifying and reducing risks.  
  • Collaborate with engineers and other disciplines to provide holistic solutions with an emphasis on achieving GOTY.  
  • Own medium-scale systems, driving them to meet the needs of those holistic solutions.  
  • Build and foster a highly collaborative, transparent culture that is safe, and values innovation, diversity, and work-life balance.  
  • Assist in hiring to build a world-class team.  
  • Directly manage a team of engineers, including career management, growth, and mentorship.  
  • Give technical leadership and counsel, ranging from short-term problem solving to long-term roadmap planning.  
  • Architect, implement, and maintain production quality C/C++ for systems, features, tools, and workflows to build related systems.  
  • Analyze different approaches to solve problems and discuss the tradeoffs between them. 
  • Write and maintain relevant documentation. 

Requirements & Skills:  

  • Shipped at least one AAA game or equivalent complexity. 
  • Significant knowledge of C++. 
  • Prior experience in gameplay engineering. 
  • Strong math skills. 
  • (Bonus) Unreal Engine experience. 

Qualities:  

  • Ability to lead and mentor engineers, guiding growth in technical skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, both verbally and written. 
  • Work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Good conflict resolution abilities across the varied disciplines. 

TNM considers a number of factors when determining each role's base pay range, including industry benchmarks, location, experience, and other job specific skills. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for other incentive compensation including equity and profit share. The estimated base pay range for this role is U.S. only and not applicable for locations outside of the U.S.
TNM offers competitive and comprehensive benefits that include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, unlimited PTO, supplemental life and disability, and more. Eligibility to participate in these benefits may vary for part-time or temporary employees.  
The estimated base pay range for this role is: $185,000 - $235,000
