Lead Growth Consultant - PearlRock Partners

SUMMARY:

PearlRock Partners (PRP) is a joint-venture between Kroger, 84.51°, and two private equity firms (one for each of our funds) designed to identify, invest in, and grow the winning CPG brands of the future. PRP launched in 2019 as part of Kroger’s Alternative Profit strategy, that utilizes proprietary capabilities to grow investment brands and in turn drive significant operating profit to the Kroger Company. PRP is a unique investment platform in four ways: (1) ability to utilize Kroger merchandising capabilities (e.g., distribution, promotions), (2) exclusive investor access to 84.51° tools and analysis (e.g., 84.51° Stratum, KPM), (3) CPG expertise with unmatched experience, and (4) a stable, long-term capital base that allows flexibility to maximize value. The Lead Growth Consultant will be responsible for leading PearlRock Partners’ deployment of Kroger and 84.51°-powered growth capabilities with portfolio companies (i.e., companies that PearlRock has invested capital in). The role will be integral to PRP’s long-term investment thesis, creating significant value in portfolio companies and subsequent value for PRP and Kroger.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Lead Consultant at 84.51°, focused on PearlRock Partners, you are the driver of growth for PearlRock portfolio companies as you lead the insights driven strategy, execution, and implementation work that drives long-term sustainable growth for PRP’s portfolio companies at Kroger and beyond. You need to know 84.51° and Kroger capabilities well, so you can translate these into growth strategies for our portfolio companies. You will be PRP’s day-to-day contact with our portfolio company founders and management teams. You will work alongside PRP colleagues from 84.51° and our two private equity partners.


You will be responsible for owning and leading the following key workstreams for PRP:

  • Collaborating with the Deal team on final stages of diligence using 84.51° tools, including 84.51° Stratum, custom PRP dashboards, and collaboration with DSR teammates. You will be focused on helping develop PRP’s perspective on a target company’s category, competitive set, and potential paths to growth.
  • Developing holistic growth strategy for PearlRock Partners portfolio companies. Utilize 84.51° tools, custom analytics from the PRP DSR team, Kroger merchandising feedback, and company information including financial statements, internal strategy documentation, and collaboration with founders to build the growth strategies that will lead to stronger growth for PRP companies and thus higher return on invested capital for PRP.
  • Driving growth at Kroger through distribution and merchandising capabilities. Influencing Kroger merchandising - with help from the rest of the PRP team - to action differently with regards to PRP portfolio companies to accelerate growth at Kroger through expanded distribution and better placement and promotions.
  • Driving growth at Kroger through 84.51° insights and media tools. Turning insights into action with senior stakeholders - founders and management teams - that improve growth at Kroger for PRP portfolio companies. You will spearhead our opportunity to show the best of 84.51°’s capabilities brought to life for a CPG.
  • Driving growth at rest of market through 84.51° insights. Turning insights from the excellent execution that you’ve driven at Kroger into compelling selling stories, marketing strategies, and brand plans for PRP portfolio companies to drive growth at retailers across the market.
  • Building PRP’s external brand and fostering community across PRP’s portfolio companies. Bring the best of PRP to life with brands throughout different engagement methods – e.g., 1:1 partnership with portfolio brands, deal sourcing at tradeshows, relationship building events with like-minded venture funds, etc.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced environment that is a little unorthodox at times and will possess the following:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (master’s degree preferred but not required)
  • 4-8 years of relevant experience
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Influencing skills
  • Relationship management skills
  • Strong business/commercial acumen (Familiarity with financial statements preferred but not required)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Tools and process acumen
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Travel will be required, expected 25-50%
