Lead Histopathology Technician

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes leading a team; applying histopathology concepts and methodology in areas such as tissue processing, embedding, microtomy of all types of tissues including very small biopsies, staining and microscopic tissue identification within a clinical laboratory; assisting with training and/or instruction for personnel on the basics of Histopathology (embedding, microtomy of all types of tissues including very small biopsies, and quality control preferred); and experience in the performance of special stains, immunohistochemistry, direct immunofluorescence, and in-situ hybridization techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Although not required, management prefers American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification.
