Job Description

Company Overview:

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The launch operations team is a part of the Cape Canaveral launch site and is primarily responsible for the operational aspects of vehicle integration, payload integration, pad operations, countdown operations, recovery, and reusability. In the last year, the launch operations team was primarily focused on the final integration, checkouts, and execution of flying Terran 1. This includes everything from completing the vehicle final build to clearing the range of aircraft and vessels for launch to being the key operators in the countdown operation. In the last six months, the team has been supporting our team in Stennis with engine testing development and execution. In parallel, the team is working hand in hand with engineering teams on the design and build of critical infrastructure to support Terran R.

About the Role:

As a lead over the welding team you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and successful execution of launch missions and pad build by leveraging your technical expertise, leadership skills, and attention to detail to support the goals of the organization.

  • Proactively perform work according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions and ensure that work completed by the team meets expectations
  • Ensure work performed meets company safety and quality standards
  • Identify and set daily/weekly team priorities and strategy to accomplish company goals
  • Engage in training, coaching, and mentorship with individual team members
  • Work with engineering and leadership to develop and implement process improvements for reoccurring work
  • Track and order common tooling needed for daily operations and perform ROI to justify purchases
  • Work with cross-functional teams to monitor, track, and order parts
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays and overnights as needed

About You:

Ideally, you are someone who can come into a fast-paced, aerospace environment, having completed difficult projects while collaborating effectively across various groups.  The ability to perform work and manage projects at the highest quality with minimal direction is key.

  • At least two (2) years of  welding and/or pipefitting experience
  • Demonstrated ability to see projects through to completion
  • Experience working with different materials such as carbon, stainless, Inconel and aluminum
  • Experience in reading iso drawings and getting take offs for prefab piping systems

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience with cryogenics (tanker offloading and operating systems)
  • Experience/knowledge in construction/demolition activities including experience with lifting and crane operations
  • Past leadership experience
  • Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve issues with pipe systems and delegate with engineering
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to interface with software systems, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite

Successful candidates must clear a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at our government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
