Lead Linux Administrator - UCOP
Position Description:
The Lead Linux Administrator provides engineering support for our USCG customer. The Linux Administrator serves as a technical expert in system administration and is responsible for supporting installation and configuration of RHEL systems software, software and hardware evaluation, OS programming, and installation of patches and STIGs.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a high degree of expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating Systems (OS) to include the analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation process of proposed enhancements and modifications for inclusion in the development and production environments.
- Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for current and emerging IT systems.
- Responsible for the range of system O&M tasks including building systems, maintaining system configurations, applying patches, remediating system issues, etc.
- Provide day-to-day operations, monitoring, maintenance, and problem resolution support
- Serve as an escalation point for all system related service requests, incidents, and potential problems.
- Responsible for maintaining system documentation including jobs, schedules, status, and files.
- Responsible for meeting timely and accurate reporting requirements.
- Proactively researches and recommends upgrades or enhancements for IT infrastructure.
- Ensures security procedures and processes are followed.
- Provides support for major/crisis events and provides after-hours support, if necessary.
- Responsible for maintaining backups of systems.
- Responsible for maintaining security posture of all systems.
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
- BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university.
- At least 10 years of system administration experience.
- At least 6 years RHEL experience.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance.
- Must possess an IAT Level II certification: Security+ CE, CCNA Security, GSEC, GICSP, or CySA+.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience utilizing Ansible Tower for build methods.
- Experience utilizing Guacamole (preferred).
- Experience with server engineering/administration to build, patch, and upgrade Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, and 8 servers.
- Proficient with automation and scripting with languages such as Shell, PERL, Python, and tools such as Ansible, and Red Hat Satellite Server.
- Experience with various Linux filesystems, and storage protocols.
- Experience with performance tuning and troubleshooting complex Linux server and application deployments.
- Knowledge of Government IT system security requirements, compliance, and remediation.
- Experience supporting operational environments, enterprise support, and/or data center support.
- Experience on Linux/Windows Operating System Security hardening mechanisms. (STIG/OSCAP)
- Experience managing Microsoft Active Directory to include implementation of GPOs to support the implementation of STIG settings on Windows servers/desktops, to include file and print services, DNS, Domain Controllers, application servers, and other Windows systems.
- Managing Windows systems, including Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, to include 2012/2016 STIG deployment.
