Lead PHP Software Engineer

Ascend Learning Technology & Operations (T&O) is hiring now for top tier PHP/MySQL talent. If you are an experienced and talented full stack PHP/My SQL software engineer who enjoys troubleshooting and would like the freedom to flex your DevOps skills while improving code through ongoing modernization efforts, we have a great opportunity for you.

As a lead PHP software engineer, you will have the autonomy to shape and evolve a legacy PHP platform. The lead position will provide technical expertise and mentorship, not direct management of other developers. You will work on an engineering team that partners with our customer support center and welcome collaboration from a skilled developer that enjoys researching & troubleshooting.

This position will work hybrid from our Leawood, Kansas office location preferred. Other Ascend Learning office locations/hybrid or remote may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on development and support for legacy software application within a SAFe® Agile team.
• Mentor/lead other developers through code reviews and code demos. Model a growth-mindset.
• Think critically, refactor, and champion modernization efforts to continuously improve the software.
• Demonstrate thought leadership and a focus on code quality.
• Capable of working independently, as well as with team members on different teams and in different locations.
• Perform code reviews with other team members in a reviewer capacity.
• Support deployments outside of work hours and participate in an on-call rotation.
• Participate in architecture and design processes.

Education & Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software development for web-based applications
• Relevant degree, certificate, or equivalent experience
• PHP, MySQL work experience required
• Proficient with HTML/CSS/JavaScript
• AJAX, XML, JSON
• Git, Docker, Kubernetes, containerization
• Well-versed in Linux (command line)
• Experience mentoring engineers preferred

Additional Preferred Experience:

• Healthcare experience
• Network administration
• Server setup/configuration and other DevOps functions
• Mobile application development
• Experience with Selenium or other automated/regression testing a plus
